Pinned topic RHEL6 Installation on x3550/x3650 M3

‏2012-03-01T16:37:47Z |
Hi,

trying to install RHEL6 (either 6.1 or 6.2) on a x3550-M3 and a x3650-M3 servers, both with ServeRAID M1015 SAS/SATA Controller (Firmware: 2.0.04 - 0771). I am using DVD media for the installation, checksum of the image on the optical medium verifies and the DVD has been used successfully to install RHEL6 on other machines.

The symptom of the installation problem is the following: after booting the server(s) from the CD-ROM, a text-based menu appears with following selections:

  • install RHEL with basic video driver
  • install RHEL
  • rescue

Selecting either of the two first results in a black screen, where the optical device starts being busy for 2-3 minutes and then seizes, leaving the system frozen. I get no status or error messages beyond that black screen, so have really no clue where to start with. The RAID system used is RAID-1, recently rebuilt and in optimal state.

I would appreciate any help.

    Hi Kostas,

    try next action plan:

    1. remove non-supported PCI card from slot 3 (Chelsio Communications Inc S310-CR 10GbE Single Port Adapter);
    2. update all server's software;
    3. unplug FC cables.

    If it not helped post updated DSA log.

    Dear Alexander,

    thanks a lot, that did the job.

    I also managed to succeed with the x3550-M3 by just applying latest updates (using BoMC).

    Best Regards
