Pinned topic Emailing IWR Reports

‏2012-02-02T11:53:18Z |
Hi,

I am a newbie with Impromptu. We have some reports which we need to send daily to users on their email ids. Can you schedule the IWR reports in Impromptu to run and email to users? If yes can you please tell us the options which allows us this.

Thanx in advance.

Regards,
Mistry

There are two options. The first option is to use a CognosScript macro to automate the execution of the Impromptu report. This will create the output files that you require. You can then use some external utility to email the report output to the appropriate recipients. The second option is to use Impromptu Web Reports to schedule the report and email the report output to the appropriate recipients. Using IWR is likely going to be the easier approach given that it can access the email addresses from Access Manager directly, does not require any scripting, and does not rely on a Windows desktop session to be active in order to schedule/run a macro.

On re-reading your message it sounds like you might also want to look at the Cognos Upfront User Guide ("Distributing a report" on page 107 of the following link)

    Hi Phil,

Thanx for your response. I understood your both options. Firs is one with scripting and Second one is with IWR. I went through PDF also but couldn't get proper solution for emailing reports thru IWR. Is it possible for you to list down the steps to be followed for emailing IWR reports to user on their email addresses. Your response is much appreciated.

    Thanx in advance.
