i can't start WAS 6.1 installation on ubuntu 10.04 (also tried 11.10)
launchpad.sh starts firefox with "page/link/button" that starts WAS installation wizard but nothing happens when i click "Launch the installation wizard for WebSphere Application Server - Trial.".

any idea what i can do to fix this?

I found this article discussing problems with WAS 6.1 and Ubuntu. The article that he references is gone, but I was able to find an archive on the Wayback Machine.

Essentially, the problem is that Ubuntu links /bin/sh with /bin/dash rather than /bin/bash. (I actually did not know that and I've changed it on mine.) Once the link was connected to /bin/bash it apparently worked OK.

Ubuntu switched to Dash several (>5) years ago. The problem is likely that Bash functions can include the optional word "function' which is not part of POSIX. See notes in the section "Parameter expansions" of Linux tip: Bash parameters and parameter expansions.
