Pinned topic Latest updates available in zip file?

‏2011-12-23T17:31:16Z |
Is the update information found at: http://download.boulder.ibm.com/ibmdl/pub/software/htp/cics/updates/explorer/1.1/latest/ available in a zip form? We would like to manage the CICS Explorer updates to our users internally and would like to put these files on an internal location. Other than pulling down the files one by one, we'd like to see if there was a zip file available of all the udpates.

    Hi Heather,

We do offer a zip version of the latest CICS Explorer Update from IBM Fix Central.

    Package Group: WebSphere.
    Product: CICS Explorer
    Installed Version: Your current level

This zip version is an Update Site and can be used directly: Explorer 1.1 Installation Instuctions

We do not test this on all web servers as we only need to publish this on our CICS Explorer Update site, but you could extract this zip file into a folder published by an Intranet web server to have to make it available to CICS Explorer users internally.

This solution would provide a local version, but you would need to manually download each future fix from Fix Central to keep this up-to-date.

If you wished to automate a local copy of our update site, it might be easiest to investigate simple web crawler solutions (something like wget or curl, possibly with a shell script may be enough) to run as a cron job that copies the contents of our download site, if it has changed, to your local intranet web server.

    Hope this helps,
    Mark

    Hi Heather,

One last note, if you did wish to crawl our update sites you might have noticed we have two for CICS Explorer 1.1:
    http://download.boulder.ibm.com/ibmdl/pub/software/htp/cics/updates/explorer/1.1/1.1.0/ is for fix releases.
http://download.boulder.ibm.com/ibmdl/pub/software/htp/cics/updates/explorer/1.1/latest/ could include a modification release (for example, see CICS Explorer 1.0.0 and 1.0.1)

Today these are the same, but if we were to release a modification release for either CICS Explorer or any of our plugin update sites you might use, crawling a copy of both the latest and modification version, might be a practice to consider. Allowing your users to consider the update to the modification release, while still receiving any further fix updates for their current release.

    Kind Regards,
    Mark

    Mark,

Thank you for the information. I will let you know when we implement this solution and how it works out.

    Thank you again,

    Good morning Mark,

We are currently running CICS Explorer v1.1.0.1 and it appears that an update was made available on January 26, 2012 for this version, or at least that is what available on the http://download.boulder.ibm.com/ibmdl/pub/software/htp/cics/updates/explorer/1.1/latest/ website. I am not seeing this fix in a zip version on IBM Fix Central, however. Is there a delay in it being made available to Fix Central vs. the updates site?

    Thank you,
    Heather

    Good Morning Heather,

Explorer 1.1.0.1 was published to Fix Central in October.
The zip was recreated to bundle updated Licence text in January; but is otherwise the same as the October release.
This update was sent to Fix Central and if you check the time stamps, of the content within the zip on Fix Central, they should be January too.

    Regards,
    Mark

    Mark,

Thank you for that explanation. I was able to download the October zip file and tested the update successfully from our internal drive.

    Thank you again,
    Heather
