IBM Endpoint Manager (IEM) operators often find that it is useful to extract the wealth of data on the IEM Server for analysis and reporting. They either process the data themselves, or will often send the information to other consumers in an Excel format.

    Hey everybody,

This is a very cool tool that you can try to make customized reports based in Excel but powered with BigFix data... I definitely recommend that you try it out...

This will be extremely useful for my customers! I can't wait until we migrate to BigFix 7.2!

Question: Why can't it work on previous versions? I've taken a look at the EvaluateRelevance() JS function (web reports v7.1.x), and it simply opens a request to the webreports page, and I bet the plug in is doing the same thing, because it requires the web reports URL, username, and password. Am I wrong? :)

    Jerroyd,

You are correct that the Connector is using the SOAP API to access Web Reports.
We modified the SOAP XML namespace in version 7.2. Some language bindings are very forgiving (Perl for example), but the .NET Framework used for the Excel Connector insist on strong type checking.

I doubt it, unless they provide the source code. Which would be wonderful, but probably unlikely :(

    Tima,

Yeah, sorry that this won't work for you right now.
As Jerroyd had guess correctly, source code is difficult because of a few reasons. One being some externally licensed components.

    Finally migrated to 7.2.

I noticed a bug after you query results from the query wizard (I queried from "Results of BES Fixlets"). If you go back to the query wizard and edit the list of attributes, you cannot remove the first query's selected attributes, additionally, any attributes you select from a folder (say the fixlet folder), as an additional "of fixlet" (ex: analysis flag of Fixlet of Fixlet). I'm using MS Excel 12.0 - 2007

    Jerroyd,

Thanks for reporting this. I believe this is fixed in the latest version. I sneaked in a v1.1 release 7/20/09.
If you don't have a Wizard saying this is v1.1, then you have the older version.

The most useful enhancement is the addition of the "Remediated" attribute for the BES Fixlet object. This is not a normal attribute, but a computed field.

    Enhancements in version 1.1.0.0
    • (7/20/2009) Added auto-complete functionality to the comboBoxProperty - to select Properties for filtering.
    • (7/21/2009) Combined 2 BES Site queries into one to improve caching speed.

    Hah! Thanks,

Since it looks like you're actively developing this tool, I would love to request a feature: Under results of BES Fixlets / Actions, There is a tier for computers, but you can only select their names. My customers would find it EXTREMELY useful to be able to select any number of BES Properties for computers of these two inspector objects :D

    This is an awesome tool.

Can you add BES Custom Sites to the Inspector objects. We are starting to use custom sites in a big way and it really would be nice to have it available.

Also do you have plans to include come of the other inspector types that are listed in the Session Inspector guide?

I would also like to be able to save queries and open saved queries directly from the Query Wizard.

thanks again for a cool tool,

    Hello Gary,

Some very good ideas there and reasonable requests. Especially the saving of queries and others have asked for similar functionality.

    • What properties do you need from BES Custom Sites? It is possible to issue Relevance statements to retrieve the results using the Session Relevance Editor.
    • What other objects (inspector types) have you come across that you believe might be useful?
    • If you save the spreadsheet, the Wizard will remember all your options. There is currently a hidden worksheet created name "BigFixExcelConnector" that contains various info about the query.

    Hi,

Do you think any of the following are/could be possible?

    1).
Run a relevance as a excel macro?

Include data from excel in a session relevance execution.. Ie.

Have worksheet with a list of fixlet ID's and run a macro that picks up each of those ID's and then runs a session relevance command against each one of them publishing the data into seperate tabs and then performing further work on them within the macro.

2). Save session relevance command within the spreadsheet (so we can have complex statements within a sheet we can just open and hit a button to refresh the data). I guess we could run it in the session relevance tester but that appears (not tested yet as it's just on our dev platform) to be limited to 1000 rows? (some of our queries will return 30,000 to 100,000 rows).

    Thanks,
    Chris

    Chris,

    1. With programming, it is possible, but nothing trivial or available out-of-the-box. With Excel macros, we have access to Visual Basic. All the work that I do with the BigFix Connector uses the SOAP API.

    2. With the Session Relevance Tester, the 1,000 limit is just a random number I picked as not to overwhelm the client. You can change that right up on the button tool bar where it says "Max Rows". The version out there has a hardcoded limit where the SOAP call will timeout after 100 seconds. So if your statement takes a while, it will abort after 100 seconds. I can recompile a version without the limit if needed.

The excel plug in is a great tool.

When we run the field on a specific field that has a large amount of data we get a message back that states cells over 900 chars have been truncated.

    Any suggestions ?

    Kryan762,

Yeah, unfortunately, this is an Excel bug:

    911 characters in Excel 2003 - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/818808
    8203 characters in Excel 2007 - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/832136

If you are using Excel 2007, and you get the 900 character error, I must have gotten lazy and just limited it to 900 across the board, rather than checking your Excel version...

My machine was recently reimaged and I am running Win7 and Office 2010 Beta.
Same configuration, no changes as I had before. I had previously used the Excel connector extensively, albeit with minor annoyances at launch of excel.

I have just reinstalled the Excel connector, and its a no-show in Excel. When I look at COM Add-ins, it is listed as available, but Load Behavior: Not loaded. A runtime error occurred during the loading of the COM Add-in.

    Any suggestions? or assistance?

Thank you. Downloaded just fine. Installed, but not showing up as an add-in, in Excel 2007. I previously had Excel 2003 and the connector worked just fine, but haven't used in a very long time. I then upgraded to excel 2007, but still hadn't used connector (forgot about it). On first install today, it said it already existed. I removed via add/removed applet, then reinstalled; still nothing?

Please try the following and see if it fixes your problem. The previous installation might have caused the issue.
    • Uninstall the add-in from Add/Remove Program
    • Delete the following Registries:
    HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\Excel\AddIns\BigFixExcelConnector.AddinModule\CommandBars
    HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\Excel\AddIns\BigFixExcelConnector.AddinModule\Controls

Thought I found issue. It was disable add-in. However. I activated it, restarted excel--nothing. :-)

I removed the add-in. and uninstalled again, reg keys weren't there, then I reinstalled. Still nothing.

Add-in is there, but not activated. If I click on checkbox to activate and click ok, and go back in, it's unchecked again. It won't stay checked.

    got it!

I was using the COM add-in manager, which should have worked. But there's a 4th option for disabled add-in where you can force excel to turn it on. It said the add-in was preventing excel from working, but there's option to override. I did. works!

Thanks for the letting us know mjbennett9.

The Excel Connector creates an installation file located at:
    XP: Documents and Settings\$USER$\My Documents\Add-in Express\adxloader.log
    Vista/Win7: Users\$USER$\Documents\Add-in Express\adxloader.log

What mjbennett9 posted is a successful and working installation output.

Don't know why I did not upload and publish this earlier - there is a new version that I have upgraded to support Office/Excel 2010.

Maybe because I have not had the chance to work on some enhancements planned, as well as to get the connector to work with Excel 2010 64-bit.

Uninstall the current version, then reinstall this one. It will say version 2.0.

Does version 2.0 not work with 2003? Nothing opens up Works great with 2010
Also, I get random folks - including myself, who have a problem where when they close out of Excel, it pops up a window saying that it crashed, and do I want to restart Excel. Any clue why? Is something not being released in a timely manner when closing? I tried to do a clean uninstall, and re-install, but as the tool bar is still showing up, I don't believe I succeeded.

Sorry that I did not test 2.0 against Excel 2003.
    Please use version 1.4 instead:

We did install as local admin. Also, we don't want stuff running from the users AppData folders, so we moved the install to "C:\Program Files (x86)\BigFix Enterprise\BigFix Excel Connector 2.0". When we ran excel, it showed up in the ribbon just like it did under Office 2007.

    Hi all,

Sorry for the rash of install problems in the last few posts. There are 2 possible scenarios that I want to touch on.
    • .NET Framework 4.0
    • Office Excel 2010 64-bit

    1. .NET Framework 4.0
There are 2 versions of .NET Framework 4.0 available. Full versus Client. Client is the light version with a smaller footprint.
The Excel Connector does not need 4.0. However, if you have 4.0 installed, you need the Full version.

How do I know I have this issue? What is the symptom?

The installation went successfully, but the Add-in does not show up in Excel.
The log file adxregistrator.log in the directory user_home\Add-in Express has the errors as posted:
    http://forum.bigfix.com/viewtopic.php?pid=24719#p24719

Where to download .NET Framework v4.0 Full?

    Standalone Installer (48MB): http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=0a391abd-25c1-4fc0-919f-b21f31ab88b7
    Web Installer (870K): http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=9cfb2d51-5ff4-4491-b0e5-b386f32c0992&displaylang=en

How can I confirm my .NET installation?

    Framework Version Registry Key

    2.0 HKLM\Software\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\v2.0.50727\Install
    3.0 HKLM\Software\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\v3.0\Setup\InstallSuccess
    3.5 HKLM\Software\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\v3.5\Install
    4.0 Client Profile HKLM\Software\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\v4\Client\Install
    4.0 Full Profile HKLM\Software\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\v4\Full\Install

    2. Office Excel 2010 64-bit

I have not tested nor specifically compiled the the Excel Connector for 64-bit Excel 2010.
Note that this is different from running the 32-bit Excel under an x64 operating system.
I will test it when I get a chance, and compile a new version as required.

While I am at this, I plan to do an update with the following enhancements based on feedback from users.

    • Ability to Refresh the query without having to walk through the Wizard.
    • Click a button to see the Session Relevance generated, without the need to Unhide the hidden worksheet.
    • The row height should autofit the data retrieved. Otherwise, some data is hidden when multiple values are returned for a cell.
    • Support 64-bit Excel 2010.

Let me know if you have other ideas.

    Gary,

Can you please tell me more about BES Custom Sites? I am not picturing the use case.
If you choose BES Fixlets in the Wizard right now, you can see the custom sites listed.
I am sure you meant something different...

When you start the Wizard the first 'Selection' screen you have the choice of 'BES Sites', and then you have the attributes for that. we have mant custom sites and readers and writers vary form site to site.

I'm still on 1.4 so if this is already in the newer version I'll upgrade immediately.

Gary - got it. This is not in 2.0 either.

The BES Site inspector does not give you information about your Custom Sites. OK, I will put that unto my to-do list.

How about the ability to save queries (keep in mind I haven't really seen Web Reports 8.0)
    How about Computer Groups
Simplified Date format for sorting in Excel, and easy date filtering

I'd like to second the proposal for Computer Groups. Not as much as an attribute to download (although that would be nice, I can see how it could be problematic as a computer can be part of multiple groups) but particularly as a filter criteria. It's hard to get data that makes sense to the business without it.

Also, can you wildcard in the filter? If so, what is the character? * doesn't seem to work.

And, while I'm asking for the moon, is there a way to do group and count? For example, in the 7.2 web interface you could get a list of all the installed applications and the count of how many computers each applicaiton was installed on (which you could also filter by group). I can't seem to find a way to do it in the new 8.0 web interface, but this excel plug-in does almost the same thing. To get back to where I was in 7.2 I'd need computer group filtering and the ability to summarize counts of a particular return value. I can probably do some of this manually in Excel, but since you're taking requests, I thought I'd ask. :)

All in all, I LOVE this tool. SO much faster than digging through the web interface for ad-hoc reports.

Need Help: I have a need to report on members of custom sites. Previous administrators added machines to some custom sites that should have been. Example: We have a custom site <Approved Patches> for specific machines and when reviewing applicability to Custom fixlets published in this site, I am finding the applicability numbers being skewed. I need to identify those machines in order to target them for <Unsubscribe> action.

I noticed in previous posts that this feature was discussed, but not implimented?

    Philip,

I have added the ability to save the queries, and also export them.
Computer Groups filter is added only for BES Computer.
All the date/time are now reformatted so that they can be sorted in Excel.

I will send you a copy for testing. Thanks for the ideas.

    Scott,

There are no wildcards in relevance query, but you can use "contains" to get around some statements. There are wildcards for files and folders to be precise.
Counting makes sense for one property. This is interesting and I will think about adding this next time.
Per my previous post, I have added Computer Group filtering for BES Computer, not the other object at the moment.

Are you still using Excel 2010 x64?
I did not compile the add-in for 64-bit Excel, so I do not know if this is supposed to work.
I will work with you to investigate this when I am able next week or so.

Love to the tool it's very powerful and great for generating charts and data to show upper manamgement.

I've noticed an issue when using the BES Computers inspector. If you add the subscribed sites attribute to your result list it dosen't appear to list any custom sties the computer is subscribed to. We use custom sites to deterimine which department owns a particular workstation so breaking up reports based on department can be difficult with out this attriubte.

I also think something that would be beneficial for the community would be the ability to save a query you have created using the excel connector so you can go back in the future and run the same report with out having to select the attriubtes and filter all over agian.

    Murtasma,

Regarding the subscribed sites property, I believe this issue is fixed in version 8.0 of BigFix. In 7.2.5, it seems to omit any custom sites.
This is the BigFix Server and not the Excel Connector via the SOAP API.

If you use this statement, you can see that for a given computer, the custom sites are missing. I have verified that version 8.0 fixes the issue.

values of results from (bes computers whose (name of it =
"TRADERS")) of bes properties whose (name of it =
    "Subscribed Sites")

I have a new version that can save reports. I will send you a version for testing before I release it.

I have seen a few instances where people are having problems extracting Computer Properties because there are duplicate names.
    http://forum.bigfix.com/viewtopic.php?id=6130
    http://forum.bigfix.com/viewtopic.php?id=5789

For example, if you create a Retrieve Property call "OS", that will work correctly, but there is a potential of conflict against the default "OS".
So I have fixed the Excel Connector to use explicit IDs.

I have also added special filters to "Free Space on System Drive", "RAM", and "Total Size of System Drive" properties so that we can sort them by integer sizes. By default, they are returned as string with the trailing "MB". This makes it difficult to sort in a meaningful way.

    Installation

    • Uninstall any previous versions
    • Download the latest
    http://leewei.com/bigfix/prod/excelconnector/BigFix_Excel_Connector_Setup_v32.zip

(same problem jstarkey posted in October). I'm on a 64bit windows 7 box, UAC is disabled. I found a post on a similar topic on another website advising regregistering atl.dll. Didn't think it would work, but I ran it any way. I was right, it didn't seem to do anything.

About the only other thing I can think of is that VisualStudio 2010 is on-box. This shouldn't cause any problems, but it's another vairable, i suppose.

And I have found a (the?) solution.

More info. For giggles, I tried to manually add the com plugin from excel by going to addins-> manage com->add...->c:\<install point>\adxloader.dll, i received an error indicating excel wa already open. I could not dismiss the error, and had to end excel from task manager. On a hunch, I opened Word, followed the same process, and received no error. Once I had added the dll in word, I launched excel, and the connector was installed and operational.

    3 questions:

Is there any way to modify the relevance code generated by the query wizard and then regenerate the excel spreadsheet? I tried the session relevance editor, but it doesn't appear to automatically split rows on the "$x$" delimiter like the query wizard does.

We have a few properties that use the same name (we have a lot of console operators, so conflicts sometimes happen). This creates unexpected results because the query wizard appears to use "bes property <string>" and that will only return the first property of the same name. Is there any possibility that this could be reworked to go by property ID instead?

Not to beat a dead horse, but this is another program that bug #38567 is affecting (http://forum.bigfix.com/viewtopic.php?pid=24212#p24212). Any news on when this bug will be fixed? It's affecting a query that I wanted to generate for Installed Applications. I wanted to use Excel to make it easier to do sorting and grouping.

I've been using this for a while, and it's definitely a killer app... it's often more useful than Web Reports.

    Hi Boyd,
No, there is not a break out to change the generated code right now before processing. I provided the code more as an FYI after fact. You are also correct that the delimiter is only used for the Excel Connector internally.

We have a few properties that use the same name (we have a lot of console operators, so conflicts sometimes happen). This creates unexpected results because the query wizard appears to use "bes property <string>" and that will only return the first property of the same name. If you are using the latest version 3.2.0.0, I would have expected duplicate property names to be taken care of. When I detect duplicate names, I use the property ID construct as you have suggested. So why not just use IDs across the board? I tested using the ID versus "bes property <string>" and the performance difference is startling. So I am left with deciding whether to resolve conflict, or to get performance. Isn't the answer to everything almost always somewhere in the middle? So I use "bes property <string>" when no duplicates, and IDs when there are duplicates.

The bug is fixed in the next release, probably version 8.1 and code name "Euclid". We expect this to be available in early February. Incidentally, the main purpose of this release is to rebrand everything as IBM. However, we do slip in a lot of fixes as appropriate.

Hmm... looks like I downloaded 3.1 from http://support.bigfix.com/labs/downloads/. I see the link for 3.2 is in this thread, so I'll give that a try. Thanks!

    Hi,
I've installed the Excel Connector v3.2 on Windows 2007 32-bit notebook with Excel 2010. The install went perfectly but was unable to see the Connector add-in once I launched Excel. Looking at File | Options | Add-Ins, I see BitFixExcelConnector as a Com Add-in... but its not selected. The load behavior says "unloaded". I've uninstalled, repaired and reinstalled both the connector and Excel... to no avail. Any suggestions? Also.. installed by using "run as administrator".

    Thanks in advance,
    Mark

    Hi Lee:

FIrst of all this is a great add-in...I have one question though and this may have been answered, but are these reports a direct connection to the Database? i.e. if I delete a field will it subsequently remove it from the database? or is the data read-only?

    Thanks!

    Paul,

The Excel Connector uses the SOAP API, so it connects to the BigFix Web Reports server which is servicing the data.
    http://support.bigfix.com/bes/misc/soapapi.html
There is no direct connection to the SQL database.

The SOAP API is read-only, and the Excel Connector is read-only as well.

Once you execute the queries, there is no longer any connection to the backend. Any references to saving the query is saving the definition, so that the same query can be used again.

    Hi Jon,
One the first page of the Wizard, you want to select BES Computers as the Object, which will then give you the option to select multiple properties for the computers.

The BES Properties object is intended to view just one specific property.

This is fixed in version 3.3, which is available for download from the first post.
Web Reports 8.1 fixes the issue of handling control characters by escaping it. This means that %0A is no longer recognized as linefeed, rather just a literal string.
I have fixed this by inserting a new line characters explicitly in the Excel cell when multiple rows of data are returned.

Hi Lee great tool thanks for providing the community with such a useful tool. I haven't played around with it sometime but it looks like you made lots of improvements in the latest version.
I'm trying to create a querty that will show all open actions that have no end date set. Unfortantly when I try to filter on the end date the GUI requires that I select a date. I tried to modify the query using the session relevance editor but I'm not sure what to change the code so it will return the results I need.
    BES Actions
    whose (
(End Date of it = "Tue, 19 Apr 2011" as date) AND
(State of it as lowercase contains "open"))
I've tried several different modifications but I keep getting errors. I'm sure it's just because I'm not that familar with relevance yet.

    Daniel,

The GUI does not allow for entering any dates other than a proper date format.
Where are you editing the query? There are no hooks to change the query from within the Wizard right now.

However, within the Excel Connector, you can use "Session Relevance Editor" button on toolbar. Here is an example statement for your query.

names of bes actions whose (
state of it as lowercase contains "open" and
not exist end date of it
    )

I was not able to get the 3.2 Add-in to show in Excel. I've uninstalled .net 4 and re-installed with the full version. I've tried the MSI as well as the setup running as administrator. I'm on Win7 64bit with Office 2007. I have a log file that shows success but its shorter than someone else previously posted. A colleague mentioned trying to install the 1.4 connector first then 3.2 and that actually worked. Note that when I installed 1.4 I just ran the MSI and when I installed 3.2 I ran setup.exe as administrator.

Please see this note on where to change the time out value.

    Hi April,

My simple query using Last Report Time does not cause an error. So it might have to do with data specific for your deployment.
If this is a blocker, contact me directly and I will be happy to track down the scenarios causing the error, so that I can fix the code to accommodate it.

When you open a saved query in BFEC 3.3.0.0 and try to modify it. If you remove the check mark from "Group Analysis Properties (Versus Alphabetical). All of your selected columns are wiped out and you have to start over.

Can I manually change or edit the relvance? I want to make a query showing servers that haven't reported to the console in the last week, so I'd like to change:
of (computers of it, values whose (it as time < " as time) of it)
    to
of (computers of it, values whose (it as time < (now -7*day)) of it)
    wmehardt,

We cannot manually edit the generated relevance right now.
So you will have to copy the relevance, make the edit and then run it separately.

Thanks for pointing that out. I have increased the limit to 1,048,575 for Excel 2007 and 2010.
I did set the limit to 130,000 earlier.
Please download version 3.3.1 with this fix from the first post.

I think you have a problem with the installer. Installing on Win7 x86 I get an error "Unable to locate application file 'Tivoli_Endpoint_Manager_Excel Connector_Setup.msi' when running the EXE. Running the MSI I get an error saying I don't have sufficient privileges. I do have admin privileges however, and version 3.3.0.0 re-installed fine.

If the Excel Connector is installed on a server, will the configured Web Reports account remain cached across multiple user accounts assing the server? If so, is there anyway to change that?

User preferences for the Excel Connector, including the Web Reports account used, are stored in the Windows User Registry.
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\BigFix\ExcelConnector

So if you have multiple accounts on a Windows server, they will each get their own settings.

    Hi Mark,

I have updated the zip file for 3.3.1 to include the export for the examples.
I forgot to zip that up along with the installer.
Go to the first post to download the zip file.

Is there any debug log on the client (add-in) or server (SOAP web server) for the communication? I'm not sure if I simply have too much data, or there is something else going on here. The add-in sometimes returns data, but most of the time hangs excel and errors out.

Looks like when there is an error that contains one of the following strings, I display the error message you encountered.
    • login failed
    • remote name could not be resolved
    • unable to connect to the remote server
    • invalid uri
    • uri prefix
    • missing parameter
    • connection was closed

In the screen shot, the add-in would have been issuing some relatively simple Relevance statements to retrieve the available BES Properties.
Does it return the error at this same spot?
Does it take a while before returning the error, or right away?

    Lee,

Thanks for the (quick) reply. If I use the query definition "All Computer Groups", it sometimes returns data really quickly, other times it errors out in the same manner. The actual Web Reports interface using the same credentials is very responsive, so I do not believe it to be a server side issue. Doing almost any other action (running other query definitions, trying to load up the BES properties, etc..), hangs for a long while, then returns the error. I'm not sure if it's related / typical, but clicking the Execute Query Wizard also takes a while before displaying.

I am running Windows 7 SP 1 x64 and Excel 2010 x64. I've seen some notes for previous versions about Excel x64 not being supported, perhaps that's the issue. Any ideas on what to try next?

    manonstreet,

I don't recognize the symptom of the problem. Maybe you can help me test my using the Session Relevance Tester (http://forum.bigfix.com/viewtopic.php?id=3026) which can issue SOAP queries against Web Reports. This would be the same interface that the Excel Connector uses.
Anytime you load up a report/query in the Excel Connector, you can click on "Show Relevance Code" to copy the statement for testing in the Session Relevance Tester.
When I get back from my travels end of this week, I would be happy to help debug if we cannot make head way. Please contact me via email.

      Hello Jiri,

The Excel Connector converts the "Last Report Time" string property to a format that looks like this:
      yyyy/mm/dd hh:mm AM/PM

It then tells Excel to format the data as a Date/Time. Looks like it is making a mess of it in your case. I wonder if it has to do with language version.

Can you try selecting the cells and change the Format?

        Hello Lee,
        Thank you for suggestion
I suppose that problem is with clock format.
Excel Connector use 12-hour format, but we use 24-hour format.

        I tested changing regional format
(WinXP: control panel->Regional and Language options->Standards and formats)
When I use Czech formats, which is usual for our PCs, I receive error,
but when I use English(United States), I receive result without error

    Lee Wei,

I'm having issue with the installation of the latest Excel connector. (3.3.1 with an msi labeled as 3.3.2).

It is freshly installed on Win7(x64) on top of an Office Professional Plus 2007 (running as a KVM virtual machine, if this may have any relevance in the case).

I ensured to have the latest system and application patches and (I think) I followed all the installation instructions correctly, including the full 4 .NET Framework.

The installation reports a correct installation but when I open Excel I receive the popup as in the attached picture.

The full diagnostic text is appended, along with the Add-in Express installation log files.

I made various attempts, all the times with the same results.

Any suggestion on what can I do to fix the issue?

    Thanks for help.

      Lee Wei,

I found the reson of the problem.
I was able to narrow down the issue to a "Culture" related setting in my OS, that was set to Italian.

If this is not addessed in the code (http://www.add-in-express.com/forum/read.php?FID=5&TID=10278), changing the OS regional settings can solve the problem.

Just sharing the info here for anyone that may get similar messages, and for your awareness.

      Hi Martin,

      Thanks for reporting this.
Yes it would be a bug since the Excel Connector is treating the Action Status as a string when it should be an object.
I will have to fix the code and the only way I can see you working around this would be to extract the data and filter out in Excel in the mean time.

        Hi Lee,

Thanks for the quick response. The extract and filter in Excel is exactly what I am doing :) Little issues like this in such a great tool are minor. Without this tool, it would not be so easy to get the data I need.

On a side question, this tool seems to be pulling data for deleted records (IsDeleted = 1), is that correct? If so, is there a way to filter them out as I have not seen one yet?

        Thanks.

          Martin,

I found out that the default inspector "bes actions" will return member actions for Multi-Action Group (MAG).
To return the actions as would be exactly the same as from the Console, we can use the inspector "top level bes actions".
          What do you guys think?

Of course, it would be nice to have a check box, but I will have to think about the UI...

    Hi Lee

The excel connector is a great add-in for excel but is it possible to change the way the excel connector uses the whose statement for the bes of action? When I use the Query Wizard to build a report for BES Actions the last part of the relevance is

    of results
    whose(((ID of Action of it=190049)))
    of bes actions

Reason I ask is that this piece of relevance could take a long time to return the results depending on how much data is returning. Which causes a heavy load on the Web report server.

If I make a slight change to the relevance to look like this

    of results
of bes actions whose(((ID of it=190049)))

the results return back significantly faster than the previous statement.

I've used the Relevance editor to make this change and it works but I can't save the changes and the format is no longer the same. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello Lee,

I am not able to install the connector. I first tried installing version 3.3.1 with a normal user account trought the .msi installer. The GUI didn´t show any errors. I then found out that there was a newer version so I decided to uninstall version 3.3.1 through control panel and then rebooted the computer. Then I installed the most recent 3.3.3 version and installed it running the setup.exe file through right click "run as" as recomended in your instructions. The connector doesn´t show up in excel, This is content of adxregistrator.log file:

I have a relevance statement that we use to return the CIDR(s) of out machines.  When I put this into the connector for evaluation I receive an error.

concatenation " | " of (((cidr string of it) of ip interfaces whose ((loopback of it = false) AND (cidr string of it != "0.0.0.0/0") AND (cidr string of it != "169.254.0.0/16")) of network) as string)

Error:  The operator "network" is not defined.

QnA returns the correct value.  The Session Relevance Tester does not.

Am I missing any inspector (or other) updates I may need?

      Keverhar,

There are 2 types of Relevance statements.

Sessions Relevance is ran against the IEM Server and has objects like BES Computer, BES Fixlets, etc.

Client Relevance is meant to be executed on individual computers, with objects like Registry, File, etc.

The statement you have above is a Client Relevance which and it will not work in the Session Relevance Editor in the Excel Connector.

    Superb, great tool!

One question though. If I choose active directory security group in BES computers is it possbile that any secutity group found would be in separate cell? Now all security groups are in one cell.

    Same goes for application.

    PS:

I cant seem so find a way to collect computers which are members of specific security group. Is this even possible?

    Thanks again,

    Hello,

Awesome tool! I think we have found the answers to problems we were having with Web Reports, namely outstanding fixlets only showing 1000 lines.

I do have one question though. Is there a way to combine imported saved queries into one query? For example, we have multiple customers being patched by Bigfix. Each of these customers their own CID and operator so that we can log into the console separately as each customer. (Over 2,500 computers between them all). So in using the Excel connector is there a way to see outstanding fixlets for just one customer at a time? I don't see any way to combine or add the CID option in on the outstanding fixlet query.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry for the late reply, and no, the tool is not built to combine multiple queries.

The queries are basically Session Relevance generated.

You will have to use the Wizard to generate any new queries that the add-in knows how to consume.

To get Analysis properties, you select "BES Properties" object, not the "Results of BES Fixlets" object.

See the attached picture for what to expect.

    Hi Lee,

just downloaded the Excel-Connector and tried it in my test-environment. Great tool!

When i want to use the tool in my productive Environment (using https/SSL in Web-Reports) i cannot connect.
I always get the following error: "The underlaying Connection was closed: Unexpected error while sending.." . (Original error message attached)

Do you know how to solve this?
BTW: Where can i find the connection-logs of the plugin to get more infos about this error?

    Best reagards
