Pinned topic IBM eServer x226 8488 CPU Upgrade VT-x

‏2011-07-14T06:51:11Z |
Hi @ all,

I have an IBM eServer x226-84883DG
with a this characteristics

Mother Board: MSI-9151 Boards
Processor: Intel Xeon 3.00GHz (Codename Irwindale Socket 604 mPGA)

I want to upgrade to one Xeon VT-x enable CPU (dual core/four core is the same for me), but in the IBM support site I can't view the support for this type of cpu.

Anyone have some information?

Thanks

Andrea

You cannot get to where you want to go, using your hardware.
There is no upgrade beyond the irwindale processors in the x226 (single core, HT - only).

I believe the fastest processor ibm will offer you is the 3.4GHz/2MB cache. There is no VT processor or multicore option available.
The fastest processor that will work in your box is the 3.8GHz/2MB cache irwindale. (1 or 2 processors, HT)

Here is a link to the processors that will work.
    http://ark.intel.com/MySearch.aspx?s=t&FamilyText=Legacy%20Intel%C2%AE%20Xeon%C2%AE%20Processor&Bus=800%20MHz

Ignore the paxville processor, it will not work in the x226.

If you choose to run faster irwindale processors, try to use chips with the same step code. If you have to use processors with different step codes, make sure that the older processor (lower alpha-numerical step code) is installed in the 1st processor socket.

    Hi Andrea

I also have an IBM eServer x226 that i want upgrade to support VT-x.

Could you please let me know if you had any success upgrading your server according to jsan60 instructions?

If yes - were there any other issues you had to solved regarding the upgrade to get it up and running?

    Thanks in advance
