Pinned topic Seeing the 64bit driver in C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe

‏2011-10-19T16:23:01Z |
I am having a problem using the 64bit driver. I have installed the latest 3.5 IBM Informix Client-SDK 64 version and can see both versions of the driver in the 32bit odbcad32.exe under the system32 folder. When I run the 64bit version under syswow64 it see's no drivers.

I downloaded and ran the 32bit install and now I see the drivers in the syswow64\odbcad32.exe. I tried to use it and got the "ODBC driver could not be loaded due to system error code 193" message. thismakes sense since it is now trying to run the 32bit driver under 64bit.

Visual Studio will only let me point to DSNs defined by the 64bit version of ODBC so in order for me to use it I need this to work.

    Hello.
I suppose you´re using Informix 11.50, since Informix CSDK version 3.5 only supports it (eg: not 11.70).

If that´s right, I think you must be making some mistake.

Install CSDK 64 bits (if your windows machine is really 64 bits - and I think so). If you´re using a windows 32 bits machine, you must install only the csdk 32 bits version.

Read your specific Release Notes and Machine Notes:
    http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/idshelp/v115/topic/com.ibm.relnotes.doc/csdk_350xc9/infodbcrel.html
    http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/idshelp/v115/topic/com.ibm.relnotes.doc/csdk_350xc9/mach/odbc.html

    That are some tips:
    1) do not install several versions of csdk, only one (the latest available for your Informix engine, I mean).
    2) do not mix 32 bits and 64 bits, it´s not necessary.

If you have more specific doubts/errors, just let us know.
    Regards.

We have 10.0 informix so it is not the version. I have no problem connecting with the servers usually, but now that I am trying to get this working on my new windows 7 64bit system I am running into problems.

    Tall and short --

    • c:\Windows\System32\odbcad32.exe === 64bit ODBC Administrator (same as Control Panel)

    • c:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe === 32bit ODBC Administrator

    • Visual Studio IDE remains a 32bit application.

So, your understanding of this is the wrong way round...

Using your information and plenty of testing I finally got my ODBC working with visual studio correctly. I installed the 32bit version only on my Windows 7 64bit system. In the C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe I saw the ODBC driver and set up my DSNs using this. I guess the big answer here is that even though I have a 64 bit system, I am using 32 bit software so need to use that driver.

I have been looking for solution since yesterday after I installed Lotus 9.0. Finally i managed to connect to ODBC and it's working when I installed 32 bit driver.  Thank you!
