Pinned topic SDMC backup - to SFTP server or to USB flash drive

‏2011-09-06T11:19:50Z |
Is there anybody out there who has done a successful SDMC backup, using the "backup" command?

When I attempt to do a backup to a SFTP server:
To my laptop running "Core FTP server"
sysadmin@plzsdmc01:~> backup -l sftp -s 10.41.51.57 -d /SDMC_Backup -u SDMC -p backup1
The Systems Director server will be stopped while performing the backup, continue? ([y]es or [n]o?)y
Shutting down IBM Director done
Starting IBM Director.. The starting process may take a while. Please use smstatus to check if the server is Active
Performing the back up. The filename is 20110905162809.tar.gz, please wait...
Failed to transfer the backup file to the SFTP server.

To an AIX LPAR on the network:
sysadmin@plzsdmc01:~> backup -l sftp -s 10.41.1.75 -d /root -u root -p mypassword
The Systems Director server will be stopped while performing the backup, continue? ([y]es or [n]o?)y
Shutting down IBM Director done
Starting IBM Director.. The starting process may take a while. Please use smstatus to check if the server is Active
Performing the back up. The filename is 20110905164116.tar.gz, please wait...
Failed to transfer the backup file to the SFTP server.
sysadmin@plzsdmc01:~>

There are no additional messages on the console.

When I do the backup to an USB device, it goes through the same motion, but comes up with a message "unable to mount USB device"

Any suggestions or direction would be appreciated.

Regards
Chris

Are you sure you're using an SFTP server and not just a regular FTP server?

I'd recommend contacting support - this function absolutely should work.

Yes, I'm sure it's a SFTP server. I tested it from other servers and, using netstat -ano, it's listening on port 22. I have logged a call with IBM and am waiting for their reply.

By the way, I managed to do the backup to a USB device. The problem seems to have been the USB flash drive itself. I purchased an "Apacer" 32Gb USB 2 device and it backed up successfully.

    Thanks for the reply.
