We have a connect direct 4.4 production node that I would like to change the name of.
how would I go about that?

If you save user.cfg and map.cfg using configuration utility and use them during install procedure, and save initparms which can be loaded through requester, you can't miss. But if this is production you have to change processes and definitions for your node on remote nodes unless you have netmap.check=no .
