Pinned topic work performer stuck in status "In progress"

‏2011-08-17T16:49:57Z |
Hi there,

I try to write my first component integrator-based work performer.

Unfortunately, when the workflow arrives at the component step that is supposed
to execute my work performer, the workflow jumps into the state "in progress"
and is not leaving it anymore. There are no exceptions in the tracker and as
far as I can see, nothing unusual in the event log.

The work performer is a very simple test program that just takes a string as
argument and returns its length. The class has a public no-args constructor
and the method I call is public (there where no problems defining the component
queue).

package com.test;

public class TestBl{
public TestBl(){}

public int ttc(String docName){
return docName.length();
}
}

Also, I could restart the component manager with the new component queue with
my new work performer, so, if I understand this correctly, authentication also
seems to be no problem.

I also checked all the other log files of filenet and the J2EE server
(WebSphere), but I found no errors or anything otherwise enlightening :-(

I then ran through the whole process of creating another work performer
again, this time doing nothing but throwing an exception:

package com.test;

public class TestBl{
public TestBl(){}

public int ttc(String docName){
throw new RuntimeException("foobar");
}
}

The result was the same: my work performer is stuck in the status
"in progress".

So does anybody have an idea for possible reasons for this behaviour?

Thanks everybody
Frank

    Hi Frank,

    1) Did you add you JAR file to "Required libraries" in Process Task Manager? Component Manager does not run under WebSphere Application Server, but in a stand-alone process (normally) configured through Process Task Manager.

    2) Check out my guide to configure debug logging for Component Manager in following thread.

    Good luck!

    Mattias, you made my day!
    This was the problem and now everything works fine!

    Also thanks for the cool pointer to component manager logging!
