    Trial versions of previous WebSphere Application Server releases are provided only for Windows and Linux 32-bit platforms. A link to "Previous Versions" is provided at the bottom of the WebSphere Application Server Trials webpage:

    There never has been a 64-bit Trial of WebSphere Application Server version 7.0.

    WebSphere Application Server version 8.0 was the first release that includes 64-bit trial versions.

    To install the a 64-bit version of WebSphere Application Server v8.0 or v8.5, you must first download and install a 32-bit version of the IBM Installation Manager by going through the WebSphere Trial website:

    Choose an edition of WebSphere Application Server that you want to try:
    WAS Express (32-bit only) = http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/downloads/ws/wasexp/index.html
    WAS = http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/downloads/ws/was/index.html
    WAS for Developers = http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/downloads/ws/wasdevelopers/index.html
    WAS Network Deployment = http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/downloads/ws/wasnetwork/index.html

    If you are interested in earlier trial releases, there are links at the bottom of those web pages to the the versions that are available.

    After Installation Manager is downloaded and installed, run Installation Manager and select to install WebSphere Application Server. Click through the wizard until you get to the feature selection panel. On the Feature Selection panel, you have a choice regarding the bit-type of the Java Software Development Kit to install to support WebSphere Application Sever. Here is where you choose either 32-bit or 64-bit, as long as you are on a machine and operating system with 64-bit architecture. If a 32-bit operating system is detected, no choice is available because the 32-bit Java SDK is selected automatically. It is the selection of the Java SDK bit-type that also determines the bit-type for the WAS code that will be installed.
