Our NIM server is at AIX 6.1 TL6:
onesydhnbu# oslevel -s
I've had a confusing time trying to resolve this problem because it
has affected several parts of what I am trying to achieve (which is to
do an alt_disk_install of AIX 6.1).
1. We had issues creating a spot, I finally found out
that APAR IZ42892 had made changes as to how NIM handled NFS exports.
Please see thread here:
So, I removed all references to /nim in our /etc/exports file and was
then able to create a spot.
The spot did not contain the bos.alt_disk_install
filesets, but I was able to
add them from the lpp_source. Finally I have a working SPOT!
2. Now the alt_disk_install fails with error messages:
+ /usr/sbin/nim -o allocate -a lpp_source=lpp_aix610_TL6 pyrsnd00-int
+ [ 0 -ne 0 ]
+ [ mount = alloc ]
+ rmc_cmd /usr/sbin/umount /ALT_MIG_IMAGES > /dev/null 2>&1;
/usr/bin/mkdir -p /ALT_MIG_IMAGES > /dev/null 2>&1;
+ [ -z ]
mount: access denied for onesydhnbu:/nim/lpp_source/lpp_aix610_TL6
mount: giving up on:
So, on the one hand, we are required to remove any reference to /nim in
/etc/exports because we couldn't create a spot (and it seems from the
thread mentioned, any other resources) but now we can't do an alt_disk_install because
NIM wants /nim/lpp_source exported and doesn't seem able to export it
I then added /nim/lpp_source to /etc/exports and the alt_disk_install
falls over in a similar way trying to mount /nim/spot ....... !!
Anyone had similar problems? Any suggestions?

Re: alt_disk_install errors at AIX 6.1 level - NIM export problems2011-06-01T01:48:48Z in response to bernie01Well, my alt_disk_install is finally running!
Originally, I had /nim defined in /etc/exports (both spot and lpp_source are directories under /nim)
But with all the messing around to be able to create the spot, we had removed /nim, as suggested in the thread mentioned above. Then when the install failed with references to /nim/lpp_source and /nim/spot not being exported, I addded them seperately in /etc/exports.
Finally deleted them both and reverted back to the original /nim entry in /etc/exports....... and the install is running.
I guess that means we need to remove the entry temporarily next time we need to create a resource though....!
