Pinned topic Creating Office 2007 Word Documents

‏2011-04-29T14:59:08Z |
Is there an easy way to get a .docx (Office 2007) rather than a .doc (97-2003)? I obviously can’t just update the rpe.dot to the latest version and save it off as a .dotm and use that, the rpe macro (or the TOC one or something) doesn’t translate.

    Hey Jim,

actually is that simple. :) Leave the rpe.dot as it is but specify the output path to be and docm file (Word Macro Enabled Document). Specify the style sheet and macro as usual. The generated document will be in the new XML format supported by Office 2007 and newer versions.

One more thing, RPE does not yet support dotx, dotm or docx as stylesheets. Only 2003 format dot or doc are supported. Hence my first entry in my previous reply to leave rpe.dot as is.

When will RPE support .docx, .docm, etc. as stylesheets? We use a template (as a stylesheet and with standard boilerplate text) that uses Word 2007 functionality that is lost when I have to save it as a .doc for the sake of RPE.

    Hey,

With RPE 1.1.2 and newer you can use docx files as stylesheets. I recommend using the latest version of RPE, 1.1.2.2.

I am using RPE 1.1.2, which has ignored .docx (and .docm) stylesheets completely.
We will upgrade to 1.1.2.2 next week (when we have upgraded our licence server) and I will try again.

The link suggests 1.1.2.2 will solve other issues I have had with formatting tables, so I shall wait for the upgrade and share my experience then.

We have now upgraded to 1.1.2.2 and now I can use a .docm stylesheet and create .docm output. This had not been working with 1.1.2.

I have also found the formatting of tables to be greatly improved in 1.1.2.2 - it was a complete mess with 1.1.2. The subtle difference between the version numbers belies the significance of this release, I think.
