Pinned topic SPSSINC MERGE TABLES not working

‏2011-03-31T15:01:09Z |
I'm using the "Merge Viewer Tables ..." dialog box to merge 2 simple CTABLES output tables. (Table 1)
Tried allmost every combination and the result is allways the same: (Table 2)
The Proportions Table doesn't apear in the result, just it's header and a part of it's footnote.

What am I doing wrong?

    Please post the syntax you are using.
    This is the CTABLES syntax

    This table is deceptively simple. It contains in the rows a hidden statistics label. You need to specify that label as the match point. The default label is Count, but your table just has percentages, so you need to specify that hidden label as MATCHLABEL.

    This syntax will do it.

    SPSSINC MERGE TABLES ATTACH=ROWS MATCHLABEL="Column N %"
    MODE=MERGE
    /OPTIONS HIDE=YES APPENDTITLE=YES APPENDCAPTION=YES ADDLABELLEAF=YES
    HALIGN=RIGHT SEPARATOR="\n".

    How many times have I been down this "error road" I had to do a reinstall of both V20 & Python

    Running the following:

    CTABLES
    /VLABELS VARIABLES=educ jobcat DISPLAY=LABEL
    /TABLE educ [C] BY jobcat [C] http://COUNT F40.0, ROWPCT.COUNT PCT40.1, COLPCT.COUNT PCT40.1
    /CATEGORIES VARIABLES=educ ORDER=A KEY=VALUE EMPTY=INCLUDE TOTAL=YES POSITION=AFTER
    MISSING=EXCLUDE
    /CATEGORIES VARIABLES=jobcat ORDER=A KEY=VALUE EMPTY=INCLUDE MISSING=EXCLUDE.

    SPSSINC MODIFY TABLES subtype="Custom Table"
    SELECT="%"
    DIMENSION= COLUMNS
    LEVEL = -1 PROCESS = PRECEDING
    /STYLES APPLYTO=DATACELLS
    BACKGROUNDCOLOR=255 255 0.

    And get this error:\
    >Error # 6890. Command name: BEGIN PROGRAM
    >Configuration file spssdxcfg.ini is invalid.
    >Execution of this command stops.
    Configration file spssdxcfg.ini is invalid because the LIB_NAME is NULL.

    I have no idea why this keeps coming up for you, but it doesn't have to do specifically with MERGE TABLES. The Python plugin is not installed or is not installed correctly. If uninstalling and reinstalling it doesn't clear this up, please contact Technical Support.

    Thanks Jon, figured it was the Python install so will go that suggested route

    BTY, what version is used by V21? I know it should install with the full installation but just in case can it be installed separately and if so, where available?

    Version 21 has a corresponding Python Essentials 21 that is included on the installation media and downloadable with the Statistics product. You no longer go to the SPSS Community site to get it. It is still a separate install. It uses Python 2.7, which is the same Python version as V20. On Windows, Python will be installed as part of the Essentials install if needed.

    The V21 Essentials includes some additional extension commands compared with V20 that you used to have to get from the SPSS Community site (but there are still plenty of others up there).

    hello jon,

    We chenged or SPSS to version 20.
    Installed Python Ess. as i did in version 18.
    When trying to run SPSSINC MERGE TABLES with the same syntax:
    SPSSINC MERGE TABLES MATCHLABEL="Column N %" ATTACH=ROWS
    MODE=MERGE
    /OPTIONS HIDE=YES APPENDTITLE=YES APPENDCAPTION=YES ADDLABELLEAF=YES
    HALIGN=LEFT SEPARATOR="\n".

    The significance table is not merged into the primary table and
    i get this warning:

    Warnings
    16602,The index is out of bounds.,

    What seems to be the problem?

    We recently found a bug having to do with tables that have hidden layers, which is common with CTABLES output.

    To get around this, try changing your preference setting to use legacy tables (Edit > Options > Pivot Tables).

    You might also want to report this to Technical Support and request a hot fix.

    Hi jon,
    Heres the thing!
    We want to upgrade our spss to version 21.
    Our DP is currently using version 15.
    In this version we have a .sbs script that is doing exactly what SPSSINC MERGE TABLES does.
    It merges the significance table with the main table in all the CTABLES within a viewer output (let say 10 of these) in less than two minutes.
    After I created the output, all I have to do is to push the scripts button and ... voila!
    To do this whith version 21, i had to include the syntax mentioned above (SPSSINC MERGE TABLES) after each and every one of the CTABLES syntax.
    Thats not a big problem,
    The big problem is that it takes 15 to 20 minutes ( depending on the amount of rows/columns in the tables ) to accomplish the same task.
    Our DP was surprised as we were. Because of that they dont want to upgrade to the newer version, and were stuck.
    Need your help to solve this ...
    We even tried it on a faster machine (based on I7 cpu) but still the difference was not convincing.
    The appearance of the combined tables is very important. We need a much faster solution here ... plz.
    I have to mention that my Python Knowledge is very poor.
    Why is it so slow? is there something in the SPSSINC MERGE TABLES python code that is time consuming? can you think of another solution?

    Regards
    Yossi

    Please post an spv file and syntax that you are using or send it to peck AT us.ibm.com if you prefer. It should certainly not be so slow even if the tables are enormous.

    And are you using the legacy or fast setting for pivot tables?

    Hi Jon,
    An example : On version 15 it takes about a minute, on 21 close to 10!!

    I believe that the problem has been fixed for an upcoming maintenance release, but I need the spv file as it was before doing the merges in order to make sure.

    There is no before nor after. This spv is the result of running the attached syntax.
    Do you mean running the syntax without the SSPSSINC MERGE TABLES commands?
