Pinned topic The problem of running example database

‏2010-09-28T02:15:31Z |
Hi, I just start to learn how to use IBM rational DOORs.

I tried to run the example database given by the guide of quick tour". The installation process was finished successfully. But after starting the example database, the system reports that "Cannot connect to server 29998@localhost Server not found"

I am not sure what's the problem? Thank you for the help.

Check ur svcs - your should have one for the regular database - port 36677 and one for the examples db running at 29998 - make sure only one is running at a time - you need the svc for 29998 running to connect to it for the example db.

Can you let me know what does "svcs" mean? How to get the svc for 29998 running?

At present, what I installed is a DOORS client. Each time when I lauch the DOORS client, the login window will show that the database is sth like "36666@server".
Based on what you said, it seems that I need to change some setup on this related server. Can you give me more detail on this? Thanks.

In "u" speak the "svcs" means Windows services (if you are running your example database on a Windows machine). So check that the Windows service for the example database is started.

Run the Setup program for the example DB on your server.

E.g. for DOORS 9.3, a file exists with the name ratlDOORS_ExampleDB_9-3-0_Windows.exe. Download this file from IBM and install it. In earlier versions of DOORS the Example DB was included in the setup program of the DOORS Server or client.

    Thanks for your prompt reply.

Yes I have done exactly the same.I have installed it separately after the installation of DOORS Client and Server. In my case DOORS client and server exist on the same machine.

I have rechecked all Windows Services after installation of Example Database , still no service exists for Example Database.I have only one service running for DOORS i.e, "DOORS DB Server"

same problem here with 9.5. When will there be a solution to this problem?

I don't use that database, but you need to have some sort of "Admin" rights to your PC in order to use it, since it creates a "Service" and generally modern (evil) IT departments prevent us regular (morons) from doing that sort of thing.  Ask IT to install it.

Since the examples feature you making changes to the database, each different user should have their own copy and that generallty means installing it locally.
