Pinned topic Thread hunging every 2 to 3 days

‏2010-08-26T20:43:16Z |
Hi there,

We have tivoli LDAP installed with its Websphere embeded. Our LDAP keeps hanging every couple of days and the SystemOut.log would look something like this before it hangs:

8/6/10 13:04:55:207 EDT 0000001a ServletWrappe I SRVE0242I: http://IDSWebApp.war [/IDSWebApp] IDSLogout: Initialization successful.
8/6/10 13:04:55:304 EDT 0000001a WebContainer E SRVE0255E: A WebGroup/Virtual Host to handle /favicon.ico has not been defined.
8/6/10 13:04:55:326 EDT 0000001a ServletWrappe I SRVE0242I: http://IDSWebApp.war [/IDSWebApp] [/IDSjsp/Logout.jsp]: Initialization successful.
8/6/10 13:04:58:317 EDT 0000001a WebContainer E SRVE0255E: A WebGroup/Virtual Host to handle /favicon.ico has not been defined.
8/9/10 9:46:42:000 EDT 0000000f ThreadMonitor W WSVR0605W: Thread "WebContainer : 3" (0000001b) has been active for 648897 milliseconds and may be hung. There is/are 1 thread(s) in total in the server that may be hung.
8/9/10 9:52:42:112 EDT 0000000f ThreadMonitor W WSVR0605W: Thread "WebContainer : 5" (0000001e) has been active for 686627 milliseconds and may be hung. There is/are 2 thread(s) in total in the server that may be hung.

I've seen many post talking about the WSVR0605W hanging but none of them with a solution, can anyone throw a light into this matter?

Thanks,

    Hello,
Javacore(s) are a good starting point for debugging hung threads.

    Try these presentations:

    • Analysis of hangs, deadlocks, and resource contention or monitor bottlenecks using IBM Thread and Monitor Dump Analyzer for Java Technology at http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg27011855

    • Deep Dive on Java Virtual Machine (JVM) Javacores and Javadumps at http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg27017906

    Hi thanks for the response.

The IBM Thread and Monitor Dump Analyzer tool looks really good!, I was reading the doc however but I'm not sure how to run it for all LDAP threads since I don't really know what thread specifically I should open, any help on this?

    Thanks for helping.

    Hello,
If the SystemOut.log shows something like:

    [8/9/10 9:52:42:112 EDT] 0000000f ThreadMonitor W WSVR0605W: Thread
    "WebContainer : 5" (0000001e) has been active

for 686627 milliseconds and may be hung. There is/are 2 thread(s) in total in the server that may be hung.

then you can look in the javacores for a thread named "WebContainer : 5".

Hi sorry as my name says i'm a WS noob.
Where would I find the javacores for those WS running for ldap?.
Those "Thread "WebContainer : 5" (0000001e)...." always change every time it crashes in the log, it's always a different WebContainer number.

    Thanks,

    Hello,
The previous links I provided include some information on how to create javacores. For example, on UNIX systems, you can usually manually generate a javacore with:

    kill -3 <websphere_pid>
