Pinned topic Where should RDz improve performance?

‏2010-08-21T01:41:40Z |
The RDz lab team is trying to prioritize where we will do some performance work. We have our own opinions, but thought it would be good to get some input from real users. Here are my pseudo-prioritized thoughts. Comment if you agree, have a different priority, or have things that are not listed:

Performance work priorities

  1. Editor Open time (RSE double-click...wait...ready for edit)
  2. Content assist speed
  3. Large member/file open time
  4. Hover-help popups
  5. Workbench startup time
  6. z/OS details view sorting
  7. Remote search/text search
  8. RSE connect time
  9. local syntax check

I did not list "Filter creation and display" as I hope the Large PDS support added in 7.6.1 provided relief for you all. If we still need to work on that please list it.

IMHO... The first 3 on my list slow me down the most on daily basis and/or are the most frustrating as a Developer.
    1a. Content assist speed
    1b. Local syntax check
    1c. Remote search/text search

    3. Hover-help popups
    4. Large member/file open time
    5. z/OS details view sorting

    6. RSE connect time
    7. Editor Open time (RSE double-click...wait...ready for edit)
    8. Workbench startup time

Not sure what area this would be under. We had an issue where the RSE component was taking over 90% CPU utilization. There were 15 users on the RDZ client at the time.

I found the startup time for RDz 8.5.1 is much slower than 8.0.3.    It needs to reach the workbench up to 3 - 4 mins.   So in my view "Workbench startup time"  priority should move up.

from my experirnce,  #1 Large member/file open time and #7 Remote search/text find  are the important.  Especially,  the remote search function is not only slow, but sometime abended without returning  the result in case the target members are over 10,000.
