Pinned topic Moving from AIX to Linux
We have a couple of hundred Cobol-AIX modules . Our UNIX-team want us to migrate off AIX and go to SUSE linux enterprise.
Does this mean we have to say goodbye to Cobol ?

This forum is mostly monitored by the z/OS COBOL team, but I've just sent a note off to the AIX and distributed team with a link to your post. Give them a day or two to answer? Thanks, Jon

Our COBOL platform support does include AIX though not Linux at this time. We would like to learn more about your linux requirements. Would you contact Roland Koo directly, email@example.com.

If that fails, would it be possible to make the COBOL interfaces with z/OS UNIX System Services equivalent to those with JES/JCL COBOL interfaces? In particular, I'm talking about DB2 co-processing. It appears that much of the 'trailblazing' necessary was done for xlc/c89 and could probably be outright borrowed for COBOL. Again, we'd probably be hunting all year for a substantive business case; but we're backed into a corner: either this existing COBOL application either runs on z/OS UNIX or z/Linux with full access to DB2, or it gets rewritten into C/C++.

Please have a look at RFE #35491. Current status is uncommitted candidate, may be be if you vote for it it gets accelerated (in case Linux on z is your favorite target).

Simply got to http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/rfe/ and search for 35491. May be you need to register beforehand, but you write posts here so you should be able to work in the area linked to above as well. Would be happy if that helps.
