Pinned topic how to change the serial number of hs12 blade server

‏2010-07-12T14:01:44Z |
My new HS12 Blade contains strange Values for SerialNumber and Model
  1. dmidecode

Handle 0x0001, DMI type 1, 27 bytes.
System Information
Manufacturer: IBM
Product Name: IBM eServer BladeCenter HS12 -4444aaa-
Version: Not Specified
Serial Number: XxXxXxX

How can I correct that? No, ./asu set SYSTEM_PROD_DATA.SysInfoProdName does not work because HS12 is not IMM based.

Thanks for your suggestions.

ASU is not strictly for IMM based systems. ASU supports the HS12. Make sure your IPMI driver is properly loaded.
Another easier way would be to use the DOS based BIOS update. http://www-947.ibm.com/systems/support/supportsite.wss/docdisplay?lndocid=MIGR-5081695&brandind=5000020

Hi, does anybody know if I HAVE to use the DOS based BIOS update to change the blades' serial numbers? I would prefer to flash the BIOS from within Linux, change the serial numbers and then restart the servers on a later date, whenever it becomes possible. But I am worried that if I just flash the BIOS with the Linux command, I won't be asked any questions (this is what I gathered from the documentation). That wouldn't be what I want.

    Hi,

For BIOS based architechture you can update type and serial number only through the bootable BIOS update. Download bootable and there you will have an option to update serial number.

Gez, could you tell me more details about change the machine serial no. and mtm on bios-based servers?

You mentioned that using the dos BIOS update, but when I tried , I didn't find any option to change sn except the asset Tag.

Download the linux bios update 1.11

    ibm_fw_bios_n1e150a_linux_i386.sh

    extract it with

    chmod 755 ibm_fw_bios_n1e150a_linux_i386.sh

    ./ibm_fw_bios_n1e150a_linux_i386.sh -x bios-1.11

    cd bios-1.11

./lflash -h <- get help what is possible

    Happy changing the values

    ./lflash -b -m8028-ABC -s12324 -aMy_Asset_Tag romonly
