Pinned topic Error on Expect - 001-0050 Syntax error on line 1: token ")" not expected.

‏2010-06-07T19:29:59Z |
I am using PASE on a system i with i5/OS, and trying add an expect script to run SFTP.

I thought I had installed Expect and TCL correctly:
Download expect.5.43.tar.Z and tcl.8.4.9.tar.Z
uncompress them both,
run "tar xf" on them both,

When I try to run the expect script I get:
/usr/local/bin/expect -f xxxExpectScript
/usr/local/bin/expect: 001-0050 Syntax error on line 1: token ")" not expected.

This same error occurs whatever I enter for the file parameter, even junk characters or leave it blank.

What should I look for to see if I have installed expect and tcl correctly? Is there anything else I'm missing?

Thanks for any help out there,
Joe Molnar

I've got this exact same problem. Was this ever resolved?

I redownloaded the files to my pc and ftp'ed them to /tmp of the ifs.
signed on as qsecofr, and uncompress and tar xf them.

    Works now.
