Pinned topic Windows GPFS Installation
I am trying to deploy GPFS on a Windows HPC 2008 cluster. For this, I need to be able to do an unatended install. I tryed with the following command :
start /wait msiexec /i gpfs-126.96.36.199-WindowsServer2008-x64.msi /qn /norestart
Unfortunatly, even thought the /qn option is specified, a EULA dialog shows up. Is it possible to disable this EULA from appearing ? Maybe via an msi property or a registry key ?
Also, when trying to install GPFS version 188.8.131.52, I get the following message :
The "Subsystem for UNIX-based Applications" Windows component is not at the required level.
I have SUA and SUA Utilities version 2008 R2 installed. Did the SUA requirements change between GPFS version 184.108.40.206 and 220.127.116.11 ?
I thank you in advance,

GPFS for Windows also supports an installation procedure that does not require user input. However,
before attempting an unattended installation, perform at least one interactive installation on a typical
system to help verify that it is configured correctly. The following command will install GPFS without
prompting you for input or generating any error dialog boxes:
msiexec.exe /package gpfs-18.104.22.168-WindowsServer2008-x64.msi /passive /log gpfs-install.log AgreeToLicense=yes
You need to download and install latest SUA hotfixes. See FAQ Q7.6 at
SUA requirements on Windows Server 2008 have not changed (SP2 contains all necessary hotfixes).
You can check SUA file versions by issuing the "fileinfo -d" command from a ksh. For Server 2008,
$ fileinfo -d

Thanks for the prompt reply. Using the fileinfo command I botain the following version string :
It is safe to asssume that the installed version is sufficient and I can safely ignore the warning with the IGNORESUA property.
Is it realy necessary to install the 22.214.171.124 base package before installing the 126.96.36.199 update package ?
Thanks again for you help,

Please confirm what OS you have. I assume it is Windows Server 2008 x64, in which case you need to install the appropriate version of SUA (from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=93ff2201-325e-487f-a398-efde5758c47f&displaylang=en). Then, the fileinfo should be as:
/dev/fs/C/Windows/system32/PSXSS.EXE 6.0.6000.16386 (vista_rtm.061101-2205) 846848 Fri Apr 10 23:10:52 2009
/dev/fs/C/Windows/system32/PSXDLL.DLL 6.0.6002.18005 (lh_sp2rtm.090410-1830) 333312 Fri Apr 10 23:11:26 2009
However, what you show as 6.1.7600.16385 (win7_rtm.090713-1255) is the SUA version for Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2. Are you really installing GPFS on Windows Server 2008 R2?
You do need to install the base package first.

We are installing GPFS over Windows Server 2008 R2 HPC Edition Beta 2. We need to validate the (unatended) setup in order to upgrade to this version.
Since it seems we must install the base package first, is it possible to do the following sequence :
Install the base package without rebooting
Uninstall the base package without rebooting
Install the update package without rebooting
Install some other software
We need to be able to install GPFS on Windows HPC cluster nodes in this fashion.

First of all to clarify, GPFS is yet NOT officially released on Windows Server 2008 R2. On top of that, support for HPC Server 2008 R2 Beta 2 is also untested at this time. You can however continue with your trial!
For installing/running GPFS on Windows Server 2008 R2, you need to install the following SUA hotfix: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/978048
The "fileinfo -d" should then look as:
$ fileinfo -d
/dev/fs/C/Windows/system32/PSXSS.EXE 6.1.7600.16385 (win7_rtm.090713-1255) 849408 Mon Nov 30 04:25:02 2009

Coming to the issue of reboot, in the steps you mentioned:
1. Install the base package without rebooting
2. Uninstall the base package without rebooting
3. Install the update package without rebooting
4. Install some other software
A reboot is required between steps (2) and (3) for GPFS to work correctly. However, GPFS by itself can do without (5), unless the additional software in (4) necessitates the reboot.

I bumped into this post while trying to find the correct SUA SDK, I seem not to be able to find the package with the same version you are showing, i get% fileinfo -d/dev/fs/C/Windows/system32/PSXSS.EXE 6.1.7600.16385 (win7_rtm.090713-1255) 849920 Sun Nov 21 05:24:35 2010/dev/fs/C/Windows/system32/PSXDLL.DLL 6.1.7601.17514 (win7sp1_rtm.101119-1850) 330240 Sun Nov 21 05:24:35 2010/dev/fs/C/Windows/system32/PSXDLLSVR.DLL 6.1.7601.17514 (win7sp1_rtm.101119-1850) 378368 Sun Nov 21 05:24:35 2010/dev/fs/C/Windows/POSIX.EXE 6.1.7600.16385 (win7_rtm.090713-1255) 89088 Sun Nov 21 05:24:35 2010/dev/fs/C/Windows/PSXRUN.EXE 6.1.7600.16385 (win7_rtm.090713-1255) 44032 Tue Jul 14 03:39:39 2009/dev/fs/C/Windows/system32/drivers/PSXDRV.SYS 6.1.7600.16385 (win7_rtm.090713-1255) 10240 Tue Jul 14 01:35:55 2009/dev/fs/C/Windows/SysWoW64/PSXDLL.DLL 6.1.7601.17514 (win7sp1_rtm.101119-1850) 328192 Sun Nov 21 05:25:12 2010/dev/fs/C/Windows/SysWoW64/PSXDLLSVR.DLL 6.1.7601.17514 (win7sp1_rtm.101119-1850) 376832 Sun Nov 21 05:25:12 2010
Some of the files are the same and some are different, the GPFS 3.5.0.x installers keep telling me that i dont have the correct version of the SDK, i am running 2008 r2 sp1.
Any ideas where i can find the correct package. The fix you mention for 2008 r2 wont apply on my system says its not valid for my system.
Any ideas you can help me with ?
