Pinned topic IBM x3650 7979 USB and SATA Connector question

‏2010-05-21T08:46:17Z |
Hi,
I have a x3650 7979-DWG server that comes with 7 USB ports and 1 SATA Tape Backup port.

I have total of 4 USB in the rear of the server and 2 USB in the front.
I have 1 missing USB and I believe I found it on the motherboard "InternalUSB (J82)" but with a 6 Pin connector.

QUESTION 1
How to use this USB connector? What wire to use? Is this a valid USB connector?

The server has a "SATA tape drive signal (J102)" connector and a "Tape drive power(J100)"
QUESTION 2
I do not want a Tape Backup but I wish to know if I can use this port to attach a SATA device and be also able to bootoff this.
I attached few pictures of the motherboard.

Thank you for your reply.
Spiro

Hi has anyone managed to do this?

    I have a x3650 7979 so far I have a 9tb raid 5 running on the sas/Sata raid, I connected a esata card to
The onboard tape drive Sata connector and installed windows on it and used the raid 5 for storage.

I would like to know has anyone modified the internal tape or DVD power connector and soldier a Sata power connector to it?
Or knows the power cable layout?

      Hi,
This is a IBM Java Runtimes and SDK forums - where the queries are limited to everything about the IBM JDK and the things that connects it (JDK+OS, JDK+Some tool etc).
Please re-post your query in a forum dealing with IBM hardware.
      Thanks.
