Pinned topic Error with raid in virtual client (Red Hat 4.2)

‏2010-04-08T15:28:46Z |
Hello,

I'm having errors with a virtual client (Red Hat 4.2) running in a p595.

I have 2 VIOS. Linux client is installed using lvm and mdadm:

  • /dev/md0 sda2 and sdb2 (/boot)
  • /dev/md1 sda3 and sdb3 (rootvg)

When I stop one VIO I lose one disk, for instance /dev/sdb.

It is set to faulty. I set it to faulty (it's not necessary) and remove it from raid, then I start the VIO I stopped when the VIO starts I get the following errors:

Apr 7 14:10:35 mpozbds02d05 kernel: ibmvscsi: partner initialized
Apr 7 14:10:35 mpozbds02d05 kernel: ibmvscsi: Invalid login response typecode 0xc2!
Apr 7 14:13:14 mpozbds02d05 kernel: md: could not bd_claim sdb3.
Apr 7 14:13:14 mpozbds02d05 kernel: md: error, md_import_device() returned -16
Apr 7 14:13:44 mpozbds02d05 kernel: sdb : READ CAPACITY failed.
Apr 7 14:13:44 mpozbds02d05 kernel: sdb : status=0, message=00, host=7, driver=00

Apr 7 14:14:16 mpozbds02d05 kernel: md: could not bd_claim sdb3.
Apr 7 14:14:16 mpozbds02d05 kernel: md: error, md_import_device() returned -16
Apr 7 14:15:48 mpozbds02d05 kernel: md: could not bd_claim sdb3.
Apr 7 14:15:48 mpozbds02d05 kernel: md: error, md_import_device() returned -16
Apr 7 14:20:09 mpozbds02d05 kernel: Buffer I/O error on device sdb3, logical block 2920944
Apr 7 14:20:09 mpozbds02d05 kernel: Buffer I/O error on device sdb3, logical block 2920945

I can't add the disk to the md devices (mdadm --manange --add /dev/md1 /dev/sdb3, same with md0 and sdb2)

If I reboot the client when it starts I'm able to add sdb2 and sdb3 to the raid.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

    Looks like you have problem with PowerVM VIO and micro-partition.
