Problem Abstract: IBM has identified a problem with the SLES 11 and SLES 10 SP3 device drivers for 10 Gigabit Ethernet adapters. IBM 10 Gigabit Ethernet adapters will be supported with Novell’s SLES 11 and SLES 10 SP3 on the systems below only if the customer has installed the below mentioned fix from the Novell Maintenance Website. Do not use SLES 10 SP3 or SLES 11 with these adapters on the systems below you have installed from Novell. Further, do not migrate these adapters or other 10 Gigabit Ethernet adapters to the systems below using SLES 10 SP3 or SLES 11 until the fix from Novell has been installed. The attached .pdf file contains the necessary instructions.
Linux Releases Affected:
SLES 10 SP3
IBM Systems Affected: New POWER7 Servers
Model 750 (8233-E8B)
Model 755 HPC (8236-E8C)
Model 770 (9117-MMB)
Model 780 (9117-MHB)
Feature Code #5772: 10 Gigabit Ethernet-LR PCI Express Adapter (part numbers 10N9034 and 46Y3496)
Feature Code #5732: 10 Gigabit Ethernet-CX4 PCI Express Adapter (part number 46K7899)
Feature Code #5769: 10 Gigabit Ethernet-SR PCI Express Adapter 10 Gb Ethernet-SR (part number 46K7899)
Symptom: The Novell device drivers for SLES 10 SP3 and SLES 11 have experienced technical issues and should not be used in production with the configurations listed above without first installing the fixes now available from Novell. Be aware that no specific kernel/driver error or system message appears as a result of this problem.
Workaround: 10 Gigabit Ethernet adapters should not be used with SLES11 or SLES10 SP3 on these systems until the fixes published on Novell's Maintenance Web Site have been installed.
Fix: Novell has provided the following fixes on the Novell Maintenance Web Site to address this issue. Please read the attached .pdf file first. Then download and install all listed rpms before using the 10 Gigabit Ethernet adapters on the above listed IBM Systems.
