Pinned topic Installation error: CA1SHNDL not found

‏2010-02-09T14:02:59Z |
I am installing supportpac CA1S and running into the following error during verification:
DFHSJ0904 02/08/2010 18:04:13 ASACIP01 UMOX077 ???? CPIH CA1SHNDL Exception java.lang.ClassNotFoundException:
com.ibm.p8.sapi.cics.CicsHandler occurred creating object reference for class com.ibm.p8.sapi.cics.CicsHandler.
DFHPI0500 02/08/2010 18:04:16 ASACIP01 CPIH The CICS Pipeline Manager DFHPIPM encountered an error while trying to link to
program CA1SHNDL. No further details are available. PIPELINE: CA1SHEL.

I am new to the UNIX world and am certain that this is something that I have left out in a CLASSPATH somewhere, but for the life of me, I don't know where. Anyone able to give me somewhere to start looking? Where is this class at anyway? Thanks much!!

You're right that this is almost certainly a classpath issue, either with com.ibm.p8.sapi.cics.CicsHandler, or possibly with another class it requires in order to be able to load. The classpath should be specified in your JVMPROFILE for the CA1S JVM (default name CA1SJVMP) in your JVM profile directory. This particular class is contained in the p8cics.jar in the ./ca1s/p8/jars directory by default.

This error could also be caused by your CICS region userid not having sufficient permissions to files in your ca1s directory structure on zFS. You might find more information in one of the JVM log files under ./ca1s/work/logs, again if you have used the default configuration for the SupportPac.

If the above tips do not help you to resolve your problem, it would be helpful if you can attach your JVM profile to the forum, or if you prefer, contact me directly to help resolve the issue.

this is probably a very dumb questions but here goes...

I have installed supportpac CA1S and when I try to
exec the HelloCICS.php I get error saying
      can't find CA1SHNDL program....

so I went to search for it.....and I can't find it...

I'm assuming this is java program...... didn't see it stored
in stuff provided by tar file..... didn't see anything to
      compile/link....

is it something that goes into DFHRPL library or is it
something provide in supportpac in unix file....and if
so....can you tell me where it is?? I thought I went into
every directory and file and did not see anything named that

thanks for helping me with CA1SHNDL and providing me it's location

You're right that CA1SHNDL is a Java program, and the required CICS program definition is installed as part of the RDO group CA1SGRP which is provided as a sample in the .../ca1s/config/rdodefs/CA1SGRP file of the installation.

These definitions need to be tailored to match your installation following the instructions in section 2.3 of the SupportPac documentation, then used as input to a DFHCSDUP job to create the CA1SGRP RDO group in your CSD, and installed. The details for editing the file are in the paragraph headed "Editing the configuration files" in section 2.3 of the doc.

If I have misunderstood your post and the error is something different, please provide more details of your problem, including any error messages etc.
