Re: how to identify pseries 70262010-01-08T00:19:40ZThis is the accepted answer. This is the accepted answer.pseghett,
Does the machine have any version of AIX installed on it? If it does, you can issue:
and this should return the model number.
If AIX is not currently installed or not accessible you should have access to the Service Processor. The Service Processor will have the platform
and model information available to you at the home screen.
The 7026 or pSeries 660 was announced around April 17, 2001. At that time AIX 4.3.3 and 5.1 were supported and 64 bit Linux was expected to be supported later in the year. In 2001 the 2.4 Linux kernel was currently being worked on. The current enterprise Linux distributions all have moved to a 2.6 base. Thus, the current enterprise Linux distributions may not officially support this hardware. Looking at the hardware certification site for Red Hat and Novell:
I don't see the 7026 or p660 specifically supported in SLES9, SLES10, SLES11, or RHEL5. This may be due to the age of the machine. Therefore, it doesn't look like the 7026 is officially supported by Red Hat or Novell. Since the 2.4 kernel was able to be installed on this machine it __may__ be likely that RHEL5 or SLES10 may also be able to be installed on this machine.
AIX 5.1 was officially supported on the 7026, and other versions of AIX may also be supported, however you may have to update the firmware on the machine.
