Pinned topic how to find the edition of WAS installed on server

‏2009-11-15T08:34:24Z |
We have WebSphere app server v6.0.2.29 installed on a windows machine. We realize that there are several editions on WAS available such as:

Express
Application Server
Community Edition
for z/OS
Hypervisor Edition
Network Deployment

But we are not sure of which edition is installed on our server. Can anybody guide on how to find the edition of WAS installed ?

On Windows platform, run versionInfo.bat from folder WAS_Home\bin\ in cmd. You will find what you need.

    For example:

    C:\Program Files\IBM\WebSphere\AppServer\bin>versionInfo.bat

Right. You have Application Server v6.0.2 Base edition installed. It will shows "Express" for Express edition and "ND" for "Network Deployment" edition.

          Thanks all for replying.

          If its a base edition,
          1. Can it be upgraded to ND edition?
          2. If yes, what is the procedure? Does it involves an extra cost?
          3. How to migrate an existing web-app ear from base edition to ND edition?

Would appreciate if somebody could share some pointers. We dont wish to change the existing version (6.0.2.29).

            Hello,

Thanks for those who posted the useful information. I would like to ask a question.

If the installation was the ND Edition,
            1) can it be adjusted/change to the Base Edition?
            2) if so, can you please provide the instruction/procedure.

            All answer would be appreciated.

            Thanks alot in advance.

May I understand what is your purpose to move from ND edition to Base edition? All Base edition functionalities are supported by ND edition.

Never tried before but you can try to install ND on the original WAS Home path (the installed Base edition). Before doing that stop the server instance and backup the whole WAS Home directory. You need to purchase ND edition separately.

Is a trail version for WAS 6.0.2.xx (*ND edition*) available? Can somebody share the link.
I tried to search for it on ibm website, but unable to find the right edition.

              Thanks in advance.

You cann`t have trail version of ND. WAS ND is enterprise edition you need license for it.
To move base to ND you need to get license from IBM.
Yes you can adjust\change ND to base by removing node from cell.

Note:If you are using IBM WAS ND version and during installation if you select to install only application server it is like Base installation only even though it shows as ND in versioninfo.bat

Even an AMI on Amazon Compute Cloud is not available for Network Deployment. Thats strange.
