Pinned topic WAS - no subtree comparison with more than two jvms.

‏2009-08-26T13:26:54Z |
Running VCE 1.0.15

VCE will not compare subtrees for more than two elements.

E.G. Select 4 JVMs in the tree and select comparison. VCE does not give a subtrees options and produces a properties comparison for the 4 jvms but no object comparison results.

This is working as designed. The current implementation of VCE "Compare subtrees" is only capable of comparing 2 trees at a time. It was a design decision we made early on due mainly to the complexity and scaling issues associated with comparing n numbers of trees, and having an effective way to display the different premutations of possible differences (e.g. a=b, !=c, !=d, d=c, etc.. it gets to be a mess very quickly).

"Compare properties" on the other hand is a much simpler usage scenario which lended itself well to using a simple merged table view, and since you are only comparing one tree element (i.e. object), the same scaling issues do not apply.

    Fair enough.

It's a great tool by the way. Any plans to integrate with Buildforge and Wika.

    Thank you for the feedback.

We are currently investigating BuildForge integration. Stay tuned.
