Hi,

Nothing useful in the logs. This message (posted above) is from the logs from the folder(C:\program Files(x86)\IBM\Installation manager\eclipse\configuration ..

Are there any other logs that I should be looking at ? Also I have IBM RAD 7.5 installed on my computer...do you think it would causing this error ?

I am having a very similar problem. I am trying to install RSA 7.5 and the first thing it did was upgrade my existing installation manager to 1.3.1. Now, not only can I not do the install - the new installation manager will not run at all. I get the below error.

So now not only can I not install RSA, I can't run IM at all to manage the RSM and WSAD that I already had installed.

Anyone find a way to solve these errors?

Also, here is a partial of the stack trace I found in the java.core file that gets generated when IM 1.3.1 crashes. Looks like they have some problems with the IM UI code. I tried killing every other process, shutting down services, etc. to see if it was a software conflict and nothing resolved the issue.

I also just followed all of the instructions in the IBM Tech Article "What to do when IBM Installation Manager fails to startup or hangs or is unresponsive".

This article walks you through reinstalling IM (without having to uninstall attached programs). The article says "Reinstalling the IBM Installation Manager without uninstalling the point products usually fixes most issues."

Well, when I try to install IM clean it blows up and gives me a core file just as I was getting before. So this seems to do away with the notion that some files become corrupted - I can't even get a clean copy of IM to install on my PC. I'd go back to a prior version, but you can't install RSA 7.5 without going to IM 1.3.1.

Any help or ideas would be appreciated!

Have you tried support? I was able to update IM to 1.3.1 and update ClearCase and ClearQuest on my XP SP3 PC and my Linux PC.
You clearly have an "allergic reaction" to something.

I believe you have fixed the bundle initialization problem, and I believe this same procedure will resolve syadav25's problem: IBM Tech Article "What to do when IBM Installation Manager fails to startup or hangs or is unresponsive". http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21290142

But,shaunt, you have run into a low level gui problem. Customer support would be a good idea. You can check these technotes:
        http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21330190
        http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21380014
        http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21298495

which all stress the importance of using a fairly recent version of GTK

Thanks, but GTK and those articles only apply to non-Windows systems. My problem is on XP.

    All,

I was able to resolve my problem by doing a couple of things...

    1. Convert the launchpad to use the JRE rather than using a browser (the default option). To do this, you have to modify a couple of the files in the $INSTALL_DIR\launchpad directory. You should have to only modify java.properties - but I found a problem in jclp.bat that also needed adjustment to set the jre path correctly.

    2. Make sure you have the jre packaged with the install in the launchpad directory. Mine was bundled up under $INSTALL_DIR\InstallerImage_win32\jre_5.0.2.sr5_20070511 and so the program could not find it when it executed.

If you are having a similar problem and want more details, post a reply here and I'll do what I can to help.

    Thanks to all who responded.

Adiveppa, Looking at the log attached it looks like the Installation Manager is not installed. You could download the latest IM at this link: http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg24033458

Go to the bottom of the page and see the windows specific FC link.

        Unzip and run: install.exe -reinstallim

This will re-install the IM and not change any of the other software that has been installed. Then start the process over again.
