Accordign to eServer xSeries 226 (8648-E7x), you need at least SLES 9 SP3 and a driver update.

Start at www.ibm.com/support. You're looking for System x support and you'll need you 4-digit machine type and three character model number (e.g. 8648-E7U). The support page for your machine will show what drivers are available and how to install them.

According to the xSeries 226 Type 8488 and 8648 Hardware Maintenance Manual and Troubleshooting Guide your machine type and serial number should be on the front of the unit.
