Yeah, I know. There are ton's of references to this problem, including this one from Novell:
But, no joy. I cannot get the VNC server to produce more than a gray desktop. I suspect a graphics issue but I am not enough of a Linux guy to know how to tell. When I use yast to look at the Graphics Card and Monitor (using ssh) I just get a brief flash and no graphics settings display. When I run gdm I see this:
gdm3968: WARNING: GdmDisplay: display lasted 0.180068 seconds
gdm3968: WARNING: GdmDisplay: display lasted 0.181469 seconds
gdm3968: WARNING: GdmDisplay: display lasted 0.180710 seconds
gdm3968: WARNING: GdmDisplay: display lasted 0.188477 seconds
gdm3968: WARNING: GdmDisplay: display lasted 0.189785 seconds
gdm3968: WARNING: GdmDisplay: display lasted 0.188732 seconds
gdm3968: WARNING: GdmLocalDisplayFactory: maximum number of X display failures reached: check X server log for errors
Those two things lead me to believe that all is not well in the graphics area. Or, perhaps there is just something I missed in getting the vncserver set up in SLES 11. Not fully ambulatory in Linux so if you have a suggestion for a change, be relatively thorough in the instructions.

Re: VNC on SLES 11 gives gray screen - JS12 Power 62009-06-06T21:47:13Z in response to mylapI have been working with someone in the Novell SLES forum but no joy yet. This thing doesn't report in a graphics card so I am basically stuck. Still working on it and I'll post here if I finally solve it.
