Pinned topic How to order activation key code

‏2009-03-24T14:28:33Z |
We bought a 9111-520 system P and an HMC from an IBM business partner. They said we had to order the VET activation code from IBM directly, which is feature #7940 for this system type. I've called every possible IBM 800 number and nobody seems to know how this can be ordered, much less the price.

Has anybody ordered the Advance Power Virtualization (APV) feature, a.k.a., PowerVM lately by itself, that is, where the activation key code was not entered at the plant?

Any hints would be appreciated.

Thanks

    Did you try 1-888-SHOP-IBM?

    APV was renamed to PowerVM.

Yes, I have, a couple times. Maybe I should try again and hope for better luck?

I've also tried HW support, SW support both system X and system P, AIX support, another sales number, IBM parts, IBM direct, and I even opened a ticket with HW support.

      I've called 1 800 879 2755, 1 800 426 4343, 1 800 388 7080, 1 800 426 2255 and even IBM Rochester at 1 507 253 5242.

They seem to get confused trying to figure out whether this is software or hardware. It's an activation key for hardware that comes with software. Reminds of the donkey caught between two bales of hay.

The worst part is I haven't even got the "what edition?" question. Perhaps I should just order another license for AIX and the add PowerVM to that order?

I'm checking around a bit. Hopefully we can get this resolved.

Normally you would order this through your business partner or through your IBM sales rep. Sounds like your business partner does not want to order it for you and you do not have an IBM sales rep. Is that right?

Our business partner said that we HAVE to order the #7904 feature, which should include the VET activation code, directly from IBM. I've been letting them know about what I've found also and I think they're trying to figure it out too.

Thanks again for your help on this.

It sounds like you do not have an IBM sales rep, so I recommend going to the IBM PowerVM website:

      http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/power/software/virtualization/editions/index.html

There is contact information for IBM on the right hand side.

        You might consider doing this:

        Step 1

Sample VET codes: VVVV - look at

        this position 450F28E3D581AF727324000010500041FA B905E3D284DF097DCA1F00002C0000418F 0F0DA0E9B40C5449CA1F00002c20004102 ^^^^ 0000 = Reset to base defaults (No PowerVM) 1xxx = Express 2c00 = Standard 2c20 = Enterprise

        Step 2

        • call your local IBM rep or IBM Business partner in your country & inform them you'd like to order whatever PowerVM edition you want.
        • if you don't have an IBM Business partner in your country, call IBM & they'll suggest one or two.

        Step 3

        • once your order has been processed, paid for, etc. your new VET code will appear on the above web site
