Pinned topic IDM Desktop on 64 bit XP

‏2009-03-04T20:32:59Z |
Has anyone tried to install IDM Desktop 4.0.1 on XP 64bit (or capture for that matter). Higher up has new 64bit XP machine and the install hangs on reboot trying to register componets. I think it is not compatiable, but not sure. Can anyone enlighten me on this.

Thanks

We "kind of" looked in to this a few months back. I say "kind of" as we were asking more in regards to IDM Panagon Web Services - which is essentially the same code base as IDM desktop with some extensions though. We opened a PMR to ask and we were told that there were no current plans to release / update IDM Web Services (and this IDM Desktop) in a 64-bit mode... I could understand desktop but had a hard time accepting that for web services as I could see that deployed on a 64-bit server well before our user PC's are running a 64-bit OS.....

With that said I was told that there is the possibility to run it in 32-bit emulation mode on a 64-bit OS but since that really didn't get me anywhere I have left it alone...
With all that said - I know if you try to install IDM DT and IDM WS 4.x there may be some issues with "shared memory". We have seen this in clients and servers that have IE 7 (and even IE 6 with current patches). There is documentation on a registry setting that you basically have to set before you even do the first reboot - otherwise it will hang on the first reboot after the install when it is registering the dlls. if you cant find it I can dig it up and attach it to a post....

I got this respone on Filesite.org

Based on IBM knowledge base, no

    "Question
Is IDMDT/WS/OC supported on 64-bit Windows system?

    Answer
IDM Desktop/Web Services/OpenClient is not supported on 64-bit Windows system. "

    Here is the link

    http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.w ... 8&lang=all

I have delt with the shared memory issue you speak of before with the regedit fix and that worked but it looks like there is no way to make IDMDT work for XP 64bit. It's not a huge concern just that the supervisior wanted it on his new box and I think that isn't going to happen.

    Thanks for the help.

Perhaps it will just take the 64-bit OS to be a little more prevalent until they realize they have to do some rearchitecting of the "2nd tier" IDM products (Desktop and Web) to make them 64-bit compatible and hopefully 64-bit native...

I know I will continue to push it when I have the chance...
