Pinned topic Could not find a valid parent module to add to the server

‏2009-03-04T18:10:21Z |
I have RAD 7.5 installed. Was experimenting with Websphere Portlet Factory, and closed all my non Portlet Factory projects. Now when I re-open them I see there are warnings listed in the problem window "Implementation of project facet jsr168.portal could not be found. Functionality will be limited.", and if I try to run them on one of my defined servers, I get the message " Could not find a valid parent module to add to the server".

Any ideas on how to get this working again?

Thanks,
Colleen

Do you know why this error occurs (in principle) or what it means?

I have a very simple Dynamic Web project with a JSP page and a servlet. When I try to issue a "Run as" command, the error from the subject appears when I click on "WAS 7.0". It's for sure something I miss (I'm new to RAD), but I was just wondering what this error might mean.

    Thanks.

Sounds like your web app is not part of any EAR, which is what gets deployed to the server.

Indeed. Now I got more used with RAD, I don't have this kind of issues any more :)

    Thank you.

I have the same problem as Paul did a few days ago. I have a very simple Dynamic Web project with a JSP page and a servlet which I cannot deploy. It was suggested that the web app is not part of any EAR.

What should I do to make my simple dynamic web project deployable without starting everything from scratch?

    Thanks.

Create an EAR project and add your Web Project to it.

Thanks Yury. So simple. However, it takes some experience to avoid such silly mistakes.

But i want to make it as a part of war project. For that i need to compile my servlets first, in which "javax.servlet.." package is imported which requires some jar file of WebSphere. Without this i could unable to deploy. would u please tell me the name of that jar file in websphere 7.0.

It's not a silly mistake from you IMHO, it's a fundamental flaw in the IBM tooling. You should be able to deploy the war, it makes absolutely no sense having to wrap it in an EAR. I've worked with nearly evert AS out there, and thus every possible tool, and only WebSphere has this limitation.
