Pinned topic Migration issues from WSE2.6 to WPE6.0

‏2009-03-04T06:44:36Z |
This refers the article 0705_nixon-MigrateWSE26.pdf where migration from WSE2.6 to WPE6.0 is explicitly defined step-by-step.
We are in the process of migration with both WSE 2.6 and WPE6.0 both on the same machine in linux environment, strictly following the instructions as descriebed in this article but still encountering issues in the following steps:
$5.1.3.1 Property collector Task
Error:JavaHostnameDefnotfound

$5.1.5.1 Export Workplace Service Express Content:
Note:workplace services already started.but server1 from workplace/../Appserver does not start manually or otherwise.

Error(after migrationwizard.sh starts):WebSphere Portal Server of Previous machine is not running.

Please note the path to the WSE 2.6 Installation:
/opt/IBM/WorkplaceServiceExpress/PortalServer

Please note the paths of vrgfilter.properties and mig.properties to the WPE 6.0 Installation:
/opt/IBM/WebSphere/PortalServer/migration/components/wp.migration.core/vrgfilter.properties.

/opt/IBM/WebSphere/PortalServer/migration/components/wp.migration.core/mig.properties

Your help in this regards is highly appreciable.

Regards,
Syed Muhammad Faisal.

In a separate thread you mentioned some typos in the document and in particular 5.1.5.1.
wps.Page Properties is not a typo. It is correct. It should not be wps.PageProperties
wps.Portlet wiring is also not a typo. It is correct. It should not be wps.Portletwiring

Please see the wse2pezip file in this post for examples of the vrgfilter.properties and mig.properties file. http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=188793&tstart=0

You should no be starting server1.
You should use the PortalServer/rootscripts/startWorkplaceServices.sh to start the server.
If you have connected WSE to DB2 or another database please be sure the database is started before you start WSE.

If you are still not able to start the server, please zip the SystemOut.log file and attach it here. Please try to get a "clean" log file by deleting it prior to the attempt to start the server and then zipping it right after it fails to start.

Thanks David for your replies, We increased the ram to 5GB and then ran migrationwizard.sh for export which built successfully. But we still face failtures while importing thru migrationwizard.Attached please find logs that might help you explain the problem. We would highly appreciate your efforts,if you could go thru these logs and put us on right track.

It seems you are very close to success.
    Can you post these files?
    /opt/IBM/WebSphere/PortalServer/migration/work/default/wcm.migration/importAll.xml.pre-wcm-filter
    /opt/IBM/WebSphere/PortalServer/migration/work/default/importAll.xml

    /opt/IBM/WebSphere/PortalServer/migration/components/wp.migration.core/vrgfilter.properties
    /opt/IBM/WebSphere/PortalServer/migration/components/wp.migration.wcm/mig.properties

It filtered a lot of WSE content at this point but failed trying to remove any Web Content Management content that might have been on WSE.

    Attached please find the files.
May I ask which version of Portal 6.0 you are using? It should be in PortalServer/wps.properties
This appears to be an error that was fixed in a later point release of 6.0.
I suggest moving to the latest fix pack 6.0.1.5 and trying the migration again.

We updated the Portal Server with fix pack 6.0.1.5,and then tested migration process. So far we have done "export" successfully but we are still encountering errors during "import".
Please see migrationwizard.log in the attached files where it shows IssuePortal.war does not exist and importAllResult.xml shows another error.
I coppied a dummy IssuePortal.war file in installableApps then migrationwizard.log skips this error and shows the same error as importAllResults.xml.
