Pinned topic Ubuntu 8.04 LTS supported?

‏2009-02-25T20:23:51Z |
Is Ubuntu 8.04 LTS able to be cloned?

I am running into a similar issue with Ubuntu 8.04 LTS where Tivoli 7.1.0.0 build 073.03 doesn't see anything on the boot disk (this is similar to the issue I had with OpenSuse 11.0 when they changed their default inode size from 128 to 256.)

I'm hoping to find a similar solution where I can change the formatting parms to an older set of parms.

P.S. I know Ubuntu isn't an officially supported OS, but you may have run into these issues with other OSes.

Thanks.

    Hi,

I've never tried this version of Ubuntu so I'm not very well placed to answer this question... but are there any informations in the log or in the trace ?

Can you see an error that may help us identify why content is not visible ?

    Best regards

I have opened the Rembo Interactive Console and run FileMan("disk://0:0); and I could see the disk partition info.
I ran FileMan("disk://1:0"); and I could see the partition info on the second disk.
I ran FileMan("disk://1:1"); and I could see the disk (it was a newly formatted disk, so it didn't have any data)
But when I run FileMan("disk://0:1"); it errors out and it can not see the disk.

I ran into the same problem with OpenSuSE 11.0 when the default inode size changed from 128 to 256. I don't think this is the case with Ubuntu, but I did not install the OS, nor would I have noticed this change either.

I am going to try to install Ubuntu 8.04 LTS on another system and see what else I can find. I know the disk was not formatted by the Tivoli partitioning manager, but by the Ubuntu installation process.

Let me know if you have any other suggestions or gotchas to look for.

      Thanks.

        Hi,

I will send you a new test build for there have been some modifications recently that concern the first error.

But in your last update, the problem seems different and I'm not sure it will resolves this part. Let's see what will happen.

You should receive a mail with the new build.

        Best regards

That version is working on my second machine (Ubuntu 8.04 LTS 32bit version). It's uploading the image now.

As for the first system (Ubuntu 8.04 LTS 64bit version), I was able to upload this image as well.

But when I go to deploy it, it fails in the LinPrep and it says to check the logs, but I don't see any logs that are helpful.

So, the newer version worked wonders to upload it, but I can't deploy it completely, and I can't find the particular logs that it wants me to find.

          Any ideas?

          Thanks.

            Hi,

This message typically means that linux was not able to start on the first boot on OS.

It happens sometimes with newer kernels and we need to make some changes and adapt the code to the new way of starting linux.
It may be parameters to set or some values that are conflicting.

You may try to open a PMR to have this issue fixed but I cannot guarantee you any work on it since it's a Ubuntu system.

            Best regards

              Thanks Antoine.
              Using TPMfOSd 7.1.0.0 build 080.59:

I have been able to upload the 32bit version of Ubuntu 8.04.2 LTS from a dell gx270 and successfully deploy it back to the same system.

I have also been successful in uploading the 64bit version of Ubuntu 8.04.2 LTS from a dell PowerEdge 2950, but the deployment fails with the LinPrep steps. I was able to boot from a rescue CD to remove 2 startup scripts and modify the /etc/fstab file so that the system would boot.

I will look into submitting a PMR.

              Thanks for all your help.
