Pinned topic IBM Recommendation for basic job scheduling

I see this question asked a lot. I thought it would be interesting to see what thoughts IBM has on the subject.

For folks working on a test or development z/OS system where there is no job scheduling system installed, what would IBM recommend to allow users to simply schedule a job to run at some future date and/or time? This is based on a few assumptions:

  • they will not have access to Unix Services or NetView.
  • they will not have any console authorities.
  • they will not have FTP authority.
  • they may use JES2 or JES3.
  • they do not want to have any operator intervention required.
