This is the popup for the package. This leads me to think it is not needed or mis-categorized at the very least. System is a 9406-520 with a 7310 HMC 184.108.40.206-0.33-ppc64 ppc64 SLES 10 SP2. It is needed for dlpar and the like operations?
icom Driver Firmware Binaries for IBM iSeries Muliprotocol adapter(s)
This RPM contains binaries for Linux running on IBM iSeries hardware. These firmware files are needed for icom adapter functionality when the adapter is used with releases as follows:
* Red Hat releases starting with RHEL4.0-U3, and
* Linux kernel releases later than 2.6.20
The rpm -ivh command must be used to install the RPM on IBM iSeries hardware. The binary files are placed in the /lib/firmware directory. IBM recommends that you thoroughly test these firmware binaries before using them in a production environment.

That package contains updated firmware levels for icom devices on System i machines. The package is not necessary for the DLPAR or RAS features that are enabled by the other packages.
