I have just installed Cognos Controller 8.2. On the machine I already have Cognos BI 8.2 and Cognos Planning 8.2.

Upon installation, I accessed Controller from my Cognos Connection portal. I am prompted to key in my username and password as well as the account type and period. I used ADM and kbs as per the manual.

When validating, I get a message saying 'You must run Optimize Database before proceeding.'

Clicking on OK, I get the Controller interface. Under Maintain->Database, the Optimize option is disabled. I cannot seem to optimize my database.

Moreover, when I click on my excel link on my toolbar, I get the following error:

'CoCreateInstance(ControllerXLDisp.MsgPusher) failed with 0x80131700'

Please advise.

The only suggestion I could make is to first go to Maintain>User>Single Mode then go to Maintain>Database>Optimise.

    I hope this helps.

David is correct. In order to optimize the application must be set to single mode. For the Excel link error there are several Troubleshooting docs online that dealt with that message which should help. Try this one to start ....
