Pinned topic EMail issue - WSA messages in verbose trace

‏2008-08-29T18:53:32Z |
We have WTX 7.5.1 running on Win 2003 server.

Just today I started noticing these messages (see sample below) appearing in the email trace files on some Emails that we send outside of our own email system (to suppliers/customers). The messages do not appear in all of them, but most. What would be causing these messages and what can I do to eliminate them?

Sample messages start here-----------
WSASelect: One or more of the descriptor sets contains an invalid socket.
WSASelect: One or more of the descriptor sets contains an invalid socket.
WSASelect: One or more of the descriptor sets contains an invalid socket.
WSACloseSocket: Invalid socket descriptor.
WSATerm: Entering
WSATerm: bWSStarted = 0, nWSClients = 0
WSATerm: Exiting -
WSASelect: One or more of the descriptor sets contains an invalid socket.
Cannot deliver to any recipients.
SMTPSendMessage: mailer was unsuccessful.
...SMTPSendMessage ends
WSASelect: One or more of the descriptor sets contains an invalid socket.

Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks,
Ann

    Hi,

I'm using WTX 8.4.0.1 in Linux. Email adapter is not working.

My EMAIL put rule looks like below..

    VALID ( PUT ( "EMAIL" ,
                                  " -PR INET -SVR xxx.xxx.com -U xx@xx.com -FROM xx@xxcom -TO xx@xx.com -SUB Audit_Log_Error -ATT audit.log -TV" ,
                                  PACKAGE ( Error_Msg )) , LASTERRORMSG()+":"+LASTERRORCODE())

It is giving 0 return code in the map as per Email adapter trace but finally gives below error..

"WSASelect: One or more of the descriptor sets contains an invalid socket"

    Service: 'smtp'.
    Alias #1: 'mail'.
    Port: 25.
    Protocol: 'tcp'.
    Socket Opened.
    Connection attempt is in progress.
    Connected.
WSARecvDTX: Socket error 111 occurred (Connection refused).
WSASendDTX: Socket error 32 occurred (Broken pipe).
WSASendDTX: Socket error 32 occurred (Broken pipe).
    Socket Closed.
    Connection closed.
    SMTPSendMessage: mailer was unsuccessful.
    ...SMTPSendMessage ends
Attempt #1 failed, no more retries allowed.
WSASelect: One or more of the descriptor sets contains an invalid socket.
      Main: -1, Alt: 0, Lsn: 0.  Use Alt: 0, Use Lsn: 0
WSASelect: One or more of the descriptor sets contains an invalid socket.
      Main: -1, Alt: 0, Lsn: 0.  Use Alt: 0, Use Lsn: 0
WSACloseSocket: Socket error 9 occurred (Bad file descriptor).
    [WSATerm: Entering]
    [WSATerm: bWSStarted = 1, nWSClients = 1]

Please let me know how to overcome this...

    Thanks

    Ravi

The EMAIL adapter command looks right.

Type the following command from your LINUX command line.

    telnet <mail server host name> 25

If the response shows a a "220" response code, then please re-run the email-based map.

Or the LINUX admin needs to change any restrictions in your environment security wise that could block 3rd party applications from communicating to the SMTP Port 25.

    Thanks, Phil
