I downloaded IDS Developer edition 11.10 for Linux x86_64. I use Mandriva 2007 Free Edition.
Is the download enough to get me started with using the DB? Or do I need 4GL etc?
I would also appreciate it if people would report the success they've had with non-certified linux platforms - ubuntu, Mandriva, openSuse ??

Yes, of course, IDS 11.10 DE is enough for all database business.
You can write your client programs in almost any development environment (PHP, Ruby, C#, Python, ....)
I do not have experience with Mandriva and OpenSuse but Ubuntu rocks :o) - install Ubuntu
and IDS inside vmware, create instance and database, and (almost) forget about it (did you hear
about administration free zone ;o))
