Pinned topic XML in Derby

‏2007-09-25T14:42:40Z |
This is a design question I think. I don't have a lot of experience working with XML, so maybe it's a dumb question.

I'm storing the body of several laws in my db. I thought of using XML data type for this, and using it for tagging each article in the text, so I can navigate the law from my app easily.

Now, question time...

Is XML suitable for this? If not, what should I use?

Since Derby doesn't map xml data type to Java XML Type, is there any advantage in declaring the "body" field as XML instead of CHAR in the db? Because either way I will be working with Strings in the Java code.

Thanks for your time, hope it isn't too much of a silly queestion!
