Hi,

Need help on this:

I am a user (free registration) of one RHEL Server on some test drives.
when I issued the command < cat /etc/passwd|grep "my_username" > I could not find "my_username" in that list.

but issuing "users" or "who" shows.

Can you pls tell me why "my_username" is not in that list.

Thanks in Advance for your help.

Thanks & Warm Regards.
Indranil.

There is a good chance your system is using some form of exterbal authentication most likely PAM. If this is the case, you may be able to look into /etc/pam.conf file and or read about it.
