Pinned topic Unable to create DB2 V9.1 instance on HP-UX 11i

‏2007-01-01T13:28:31Z |
Am trying to create a DB2V91 instance on HP-UX 11i, however it's failing owing to some dbm configuration issues.

  1. db2icrt -u db2inst db2inst1 => results in the following messages on the screen:

DBI1281E The database manager configuration file could not be
initialized.

Explanation:

An error occurred when attempting to initialize the database
manager configuration file. A DB2 instance could not be created
or migrated.

=> Contents of /tmp/db2icrt.log.259:

Program name = db2idbm
Instance home dir = /opt/home/rjginst1, Sysadm group = dasadm1
Instance type = 1, Auth type = SERVER

SQL10007N Message "-1390" could not be retrieved. Reason code: "3".
Update DBM cfg SYSADM_GROUP errcode = 8
DBI1281E The database manager configuration file could not be
initialized.

The kernel parameters have already been tweaked based upon the db2osconf recommendations. Couldn't change the value of msgssz. db2osconf recommends this value to be 32, whereas I can't set a value of < 65 to this parameter.

    Hi,

    The command you quoted above seems to be requesting the creation of an
    instance db2inst1. Yet, db2 is reporting that the instance home dir is
    /opt/home/rjginst1 . It sounds like you are invoking db2icrt from a
    non-root id.

    Regards,
    Kenneth

    Hey Kenneth,
    My apologies for that. I guess, I pasted the contents of a wrong log file. Here are the details related to db2inst1:

    =======
    1. db2icrt -u db2inst1 db2inst1
    DBI1281E The database manager configuration file could not be
    initialized.

    Explanation:

    An error occurred when attempting to initialize the database
    manager configuration file. A DB2 instance could not be created
    or migrated.

    User Response:

    Refer to the log file for problem determination. Resolve the
    problem and try the command again. If the problem persists,
    please contact IBM Support.
    DBI1079I Output is saved in the log file /tmp/db2icrt.log.11610.
    =======

    Contents of /tmp/db2icrt.log.11610:

    Program name = db2idbm
    Instance home dir = /opt/home/db2inst1, Sysadm group = db2grp1
    Instance type = 1, Auth type = SERVER

    SQL10007N Message "-1390" could not be retrieved. Reason code: "3".
    Update DBM cfg SYSADM_GROUP errcode = 8
    DBI1281E The database manager configuration file could not be
    initialized.

    Well, it's failing - but owing to what, we don't know. Your best bet is to
    open a PMR and have L2 help you with this.

    Thanks,
