Migration from WSAD 5.1 to RAD 7

‏2006-12-06T22:21:00Z  in response to msiegel
We are upgrading to RAD v7 and WAS 6.1 from WSAD 5.1 and WAS 5.1. Is there any way to migrate a WSAD 5.1 server project to a WAS 6.1 server profile? Or will we be forced to create brand new server profiles in 6.1 and configure them manually? I am very hopeful that there is a migration solution, as we have many application servers.

Thanks,
Erick

Eric,

I am also looking at the migration of server projects from WSAD 5.1 to RAD7 - did you have any success? We also have several servers so an easy migration would be good - any information appreciated.

Unfortunately, there is no migration between WSAD 5.1 server projects and WAS 6.1 server profiles. We created a template profile and exported it to a .car file. As we create new profiles for each server, we export the .car to that profile. Anything that is unique to a particular server must be performed manually. It would have been nice if IBM provided better migration support.

Good luck!

Good Day,

I have a customer requirement to upgrade RAD v5.0.0.2 to v7.0.0.5 (latest version). I am looking for a step by step plan if that is available among this community. Please correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't this process require the complete uninstall of RAD v5.0.0.2 before proceeding? Are the customer's projects the only data that is maintained during this upgrade \ migration process? In my scenario I have RAD with an AU license; how is that license reused under the new version of RAD?

Best Regards,
Keith

Hi,

Did you have any success doing it? I am stuck at the moment.
1) I have imported the project devloped in WSAD 5.1.2 into RAD 7.0.0.4
2) Ran the J2ee Migration Wizard to fix the CMP EJBs Mapping. It successfully did that transformation.
3) But moment I click "Prepare for deployment", it throws the following exception:

I also tried re-installing RAD7 with the option of extending an existing eclipse installation (3.2.1 plus released patches). This is not the installation i want since it is using Sun JDK 1.5.08 and thus it doesnt allow me to install WAS 6.1 and some other features.

However, this installation is also crashing at startup, but this time with Exit code=1.

Im on Windows XP Professional SP2
2GB RAM
3 Ghz CPU
Internet Explorer 7.0

I should also note that it is the Trial version im trying to install/run. Everybody on our team are using RAD6 right now, but we want to upgrade.

Thanks for any information on what could be causing this.
Regards,

/Fredrik

I actually found a way to install RAD7 on ubuntu. Found some hints here:
http://exceptionnull.net/index.php?/archives/2.WebSphere-Portal-6-on-Ubuntu-continued.html

and I have documented the whole on my blog: http://alexcozzi.blogspot.com/2007/01/rational-application-developer-7-on.html

Enjoy.

We also tried to install on two more machines. One with the exact configuration as Fredrik and the other one a Lenovo T60p with 2gb of ram. I suspect that the problem has somthing to to with our WindowsXP installations beeing in swedish or that we all have RAD6 installed.

I got the same error code (8096) when I was trying to "install" the license file with "installation manager".

I've attached the dump file (.txt) and the trace file (.trc) from the failed RAD7 start.

No, not a word. But one of our developers got it running. He's got som different user rights on his computer. We're all admins but there has to be some supersuper-admin in windows thats he's been using.

My guess is that if you login as administrator the program will run fine. Just beeing in the administratorgroup will not work.

Have you tried the installation logins as "Administrator"?

WPF 6.0 on RSA 7.0

‏2006-12-10T17:52:21Z  in response to msiegel
Dear Sirs.

We tried installing Websphere Portlet Factory 6.0 into the newly released
Rational Software Architect 7.0.

However the WPF's installation-routine couldn't figure into which location
to install, It did not see the location of RSA7.0 installation.
(It did displayed the location of the RSA 6.0, which I have still installed,
till I see RSA 7.0 properly working with WPF 6.0).

Would you have any advice. Can WPF 6.0, today work with this RSA release 7.0?

Many thanks

RSA 7 has a higher version of Eclipse than WPF 6 uses so you cannot intall it. The next fixpack release for WFP should correct this problem. For now, the only alternatives are install WPF 6 in a separate Eclipse environment or install it in RAD/RSA 6

Re: V7 installation/transition issues - Installation Error During WAS61 install phase

‏2006-12-11T13:47:31Z  in response to msiegel
I am attempting to install RAD7 on my IBM Laptop (Windows XP SP2). I previously had RAD 6.0.2.5 and uninstalled it completely before attempting the RAD 7 install. Using the Launchpad and Installation Manager, it appears to work up until the point where WAS6.1 installs. Right after running WAS61Install.bat and then ManageProfiles.bat, it starts removing all of the plug-ins and then ends with the following error message:

Error installing IBM® Rational® Application Developer
Error during "install" phase:
Error executing "C:\Program Files\IBM\SDP70\runtimes\base_v61\bin\manageprofiles.bat" operation (status=255).
See agent output log for more information: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\IBM\Installation Manager\logs\native\20061211_0811.log

When I look at the referenced log file, all it contains is the following message

'P¤ ' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

I looked at the batch file (which I found in the runtime directory and it contained no characters that looked like what is in the logfile.

Any suggestions? I have repeated this condition several times so it is not a random corruption.

Problem Running a Portlet Project on WebSphere 5.1 UTE

‏2006-12-12T05:01:14Z  in response to msiegel
Hi
I've just installed RAD 7 and loaded a portlet project created in RAD 6. When I try and run the portlet on WebSphere Portal 5.1 Test environment, I get a dialog saying An XML Access failure has occured whil starting the Portal Test Environment.

In the portal logs I'm getting the following stack trace

As a continuation of my original problems, none of my RAD 6 portlet projects will deploy correctly to my Portal 5.1 test environment. It seems that the portal is not picking up resources in the JavaSource directory

Hi,

I'm also experiencing this issue and what I could figure out so far was that a web server needed to be started up. The change is that the error message will change that might imply that it's a step in a right direction. In other words, although RAD 6 could deploy a portlet project to WP 5 UTE without a web server, it seems that RAD 7 cannot.

I don't know if it helps, but if you find a solution to this problem, please let us know what it is.

Hi all,

I've got the same problem with RSA7 using all possible combinations:

• IBM Portlet running on WP 5.1 UTE
• IBM Portlet running on WP 6 UTE
• JSR 168 Portlet running on WP 5.1 UTE
• JSR 168 Portlet running on WP 6 UTE.

The problem is slightly different but in all case it is because of the fact that the Server cannot load the Java classes of the Portlet project.

I have no idea... Can anyone help???

Thx in advance
Sven

and I don't know what setting has been changed in RSA (I reinstalled WP6 and it didn't help) that is causing this issue.

If anyone knows how to fix it, please post the solution!

Thanks,

I got the same error, both when running RSA7 with the full Portal 6 as well as when I ran the Portal 5.1 UTE.

When I removed the resource bundle references from the portlet descriptor I got another error saying that the portlet class itself was missing. This made me notice that the portlet project hadn't been built at all.

I changed the build output folder to WEB-INF/classes and forced a rebuild and got it to work, so make sure that your WEB-INF/classes folder actually exists and that it contains the classes and resource bundles of the project.

Regards,
Pär

I've had this error too running RSA7 with the full Portal6 on windows.
I'd checked that my resource bundles were being correctly build into WEB-INF/classes and still had the problem when publishing.

My problem was caused because the combination of my workspace path and portlet project name was too long.
When publishing, rational copies files to a directory structure under your workspace_dir/.metadata/.plugins/org.eclipse.wst.server.core/tmp0/ and in some cases the file paths can reach the windows limit of 255 chars.

Moving my workspace to C:\ solved the problem.

Hope this helps,

Ben

Hi,

I had the same problems getting a portlet application started in an WS 5.1. test environment. Did you solve your problems? What were the reasons for them and how did you solve them?

The xml access failure was gone when I had built up a new project - other name - exactly the same code and configuration files. Perhaps the paths were too long in the old project. But I don't really know the reason.

After I've fixed the xml access failure there was another problem. In all JSPs the objects returned from the getAttribute() method of the portlet session were null. Although they were set in a regular way. So I changed the Scope in all addAttribute() method calls to PORTLET_SCOPE and the objects were available.

But what if I need explicit APPLICATION_SCOPE??? Are application-wide available session attributes not supportet by WebSphere Portal 5.1 Test environment?

There are no Trial versions of these optionals. If you want to get them you need to purchase the product.

In this release, all products start life as a Trial. If you install and want to enable permanent licensing, purchase the product and you will be given access to the download site to get the available optionals.

Re: V7 installation/transition issues

‏2006-12-12T21:21:15Z  in response to msiegel
I am having problems getting a 5.1 test environment migrated into RAD 7.

In RAD 6, I have my server configuration stored in a Clearcase view, as opposed to workspace, so all developers can get a view and run the server wo/configuration changes.

When I import this existing server project, I get no 5.1 server in the Servers view. I tried both by importing the existing project into the workspace as well as by migrating a RAD 6 workspace into RAD 7. Neither worked as desired.

Worst (functional) case, I have to create a new server and it's configuration from scratch. But I cannot get this newly created server "out" of the workspace and "into" my view so I can store in Clearcase.

Any ideas on how to make this work in RAD 7 as it did in RAD 6?

UML Model 6.0.1.1 to 7.0

We've an UML model built using the 6.0.1.1. When we open it with the 7.0 we've a lot of windows that says that a newer version of a profile exists. If we answer ok or Cancel to all these windows, RSA crachs ! :-(

Do you know if it exists some issues regarding the migration form 6.0.1.1 to 70 ?

Thanks

1. Installed the RSA without problems
2. Application starts normally, works normally.
3. After several context switches between RSA and other applications (Firefox, Lotus), application freezes for seconds, repainting on diagram editor contents (e.g. UC diagram) slows down (>20 sec).

I don't succeed to create new scemas/tables under "dynamic webproject" or even "datadevelopment project. There wasn't any way to activate new table or database definition functionality.

There wasn't either any databases to select as default under Window/preferences/Data selection. (Window/Preferences/General/Cababilities/Data and DatabaseDeveloper are selected).

How can I install (cloudscape) database support to RAD IDE?

Hi,

I am trying to install the portal 6.0 test environment but I did not get the option for installing it. Only "typical" and "custom". When I do select typical or custom it seems to be the normal install procedure. I found in the install.bat the command line:

What does the skipWTP=true means ?

For WP 6.0 there is no "Test Environment" anymore. You will need to perform the normal server install (either typical or custom). RAD 7.0 will connect to either a locally installed WP 6.0 or a remote one, and offer the same functionalities as testing against a "Test Environment".

More than 1 Enterprise App using same Java Project as Web Library Causes Server View to Break

‏2006-12-21T19:12:51Z  in response to msiegel
Posted this in a separate thread prior to this, but I honestly think this one is rather glaring (and it's a show stopper for us). The good this is that it's so obvious and easy to recreate...at least on the machines we've tried. All the workstations are identical.

Environment:
CPU - Pentium D 3.20GHz
RAM - 3.5GB
OS - Windows XP SP2+
Rational Application Developer 7

Recreation Process:
• This was all done with NO 3rd party plugins & a fresh install of RAD7
1) Start with new workspace
2) Create EnterpriseApp1, allow to create web module
3) Deploy to WAS6.1 Test Environment to ensure operation (works)
4) Create EnterpriseApp2, allow to create another separate web module
5) Deploy to WAS6.1 Test Environment to ensure operation (works)
6) Create Java Project ("Shared Java Project")
7) Assign "Shared Java Project" as a web library in the J2EE Module Dependencies dialog Web Project 1
8) Start WAS6.1 to ensure operation (works)
9) Assign "Shared Java Project" as a web library in the J2EE Module Dependencies dialog for Web Project 2
10) Now, you can START the server, but try to Add/Remove Project, define a new server...nothing will happen and this will appear in the .log file of the workspace .metadata directory:

I've opened a PMR(#74854,428,758) with IBM Support for this issue.
This is their answer:

======================================================================
The problem you reported has been reported against the Eclipse WTP code packaged with RAD and it will be fixed in RAD 7.0.0.2
as it has been fixed in WTP 1.5.3 as mentioned here:
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=163580

I believe to work-aroudn this issue you can just add each module individually after the server is created
(i.e. don't add them in the create server wizard).

We do not have yet the timeframe for the delivery of the 7.0.0.2 release.
=====================================================================

Ciao,
Dario

We have an existing enterprise currently using clearcase 6 and want to upgrade our Rational Application Developer environment to RAD7. Can we still use clearcase 6 with RAD7 or is it REQUIRED that we upgrade to clearcase 7? If we use clearcase 6 with rad7 are there any limitations or problems we will run into? If so, is there a workaround. We can't upgrade to clearcase 7 immediately.

VSS Plugin Usage

Hi,

Another posted regarding this on Dec. 29 (with a different topic), but there have been no replies.

Has RAD v7 been tested with a VSS Plugin?

I'm trying to use an org.vssplugin.1.6.1 which was pulled form SourceForge. I have placed the plugin into the IBM\SDP70\plugins directory, but RAD doesn't seem to notice it there. Oddly there are no other plugins in the plugins folder.

After you copy the 1.6.1 plugin on the \plugins directory, start RAD7 with -clean option. This will force RAD to check for any new plugins.
You could create a new shortcut to launch everytimes you install a new plugins

example:
D:\IBM\SDP70\eclipse.exe -product com.ibm.rational.rad.product.ide -clean

RAD 7.0 Installation hangs

‏2007-01-10T15:35:28Z  in response to msiegel
Hello,

I am trying to install RAD 7.0 (English) on my Windows XP Professional (German) machine but the installation hangs while fetching the plugin com.ibm.etools.jsf.deploy.was61_7.0.0.v20060518-1600-7 from disk 2.

I noticed in the task manager that there is a cmd.exe process running (0% CPU usage) even though I have no DOS-prompt windows open.

This reminds me of a problem with the WSAD 4.0 installation a few years ago where an xcopy.exe process hung during the installation because it was waiting for user confirmation to delete a file.

Could this be a similar issue? Killing the process does not allow the installation to continue, however.

I chose the following components during the installation:

Web Development Tools
• Web Development Tools
• Struts Tools
• Crystal Reports tools
J2EE and Web services development tools
Java client application editor (JVE)
Visualization editors
Application analysis and developer test
• Code review
• Test and Performance Tools Platform (TPTP)
J2EE Connector (J2C) tools
Extensibility features
• Transformation authoring
• Plug-in Development Environment (PDE)
• JET Extensibility
Data tools
WebSphere Application Server development
• WebSphere Application Server development tools
• WebSphere Application Server compile-time dependencies
• IBM WebSphere Application Server 5.1
• IBM WebSphere Application Server 6.1

I have WSAD 5.1.2 installed on another drive.
I deinstalled RAD 6.0 (also on another drive) and all its extras prior to installing RAD 7.0.
I chose not to use an existing version of Eclipse during the installation.

Is this problem already known? Is there an updated installer available?

I ordered the RAD 7.0 on disk via the Passport Advantage site.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Hello,

Problem apparently solved. After cancelling the installation the error log revealed that CRC errors had occured reading the aforementioned plugin from the disk. Sure enough, an inspection of disk 2 revealed a nasty scratch. We'll have to order another copy if that is allowed.

Thanks again,

Hi Dave,

Did you find a solution for this problem. As I'm facing the same issue.I'm using IRAD 7.0 and when I run Junit test cases (junit3.8.1) i get the same kind of error as you had.

I have the same problem and I don't now how to resolve it. I use RSA 7.0.0.
Maybe if I'll install some fixes for RSA/RAD the problem will be resolved. How do you think?

I was getting the same error in RAD 7.0 as well when I attempted to run my web service client as a main. Here is the solution I found to make things work.

I added the following three jar files to the build path of the project.

...\base_v61\runtimes\com.ibm.jaxws.thinclient_6.1.0.jar
...\org.eclipse.core.runtime_3.0.1\runtime.jar
...\org.eclipse.osgi_3.0.1\osgi.jar

I added ..\runtimes\base_v61\runtimes\com.ibm.ws.webservices.thinclient_6.1.0.jar found in the Ration SDP70 install directory.

I placed the webservices thinclient jar in to the classpath of the junit test project and solved my CoreExeception not found error.

\IBM\SDP70\runtimes\base_v61\runtimes\com.ibm.ws.webservices.thinclient_6.1.0.jar

The resoultion for this is :

Adding the com.ibm.ws.webservices.thinclient_6.1.0.jar file under

\runtimes\base_v61\runtimes\ folder to the web applications library path.

I didn't see the error when I pasted the snippet into a JSP file. I had to add <select> elements around the code to eliminate the warning about wrong location of the <option> element. Other than that the only error on the page is that "isEmergencyPart" is not defined.

Try right clicking on the page in Project Explorer and select "Validate". This should clear the error. If not then it must have been due to other portions of the page not pasted here.

Hi Again,

I figured this one out with the help of a colleague.

You need to un-install the IBM Installation Manager, before you try to install RAD 7.0.

I'm guessing like me you had a previous version of this on your machine.

Have just done this myself, and now have RAD 7 installed correctly :-)

I got the same messages. Here are the things that I have done to be able to install successfully:
1. I had a previous installation of RSA 6, which I uninstalled already, but the installation directory is still there. I blew that away manually.
2. I had a previous installation of RSA 7 Beta, which I uninstalled as well, but I forgot to uninstall the Installation Manager that came with RSA 7 Beta. This is probably the culprit. I uninstalled it as well.
3. I launched install_win32.exe from the Disk 1 directory. Installation manager was re-installed.
4. There is a fix pack for the Installation Manager. See http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg24014735
Download it and install it.

After the above was done. RSA 7 installed successfully. :-)

Cleanup the project build paths. Do not use the JRELIB variable, but use a "JRE System Library" instead.

(The "rt.jar" was part of the v1.3 JRE, which was split in v1.4 into multiple files, the most common one called "core.jar".)

Hello,

had the same problem and solved it by setting the target runtime platform in the project preferences to WAS 6.

BUT still I get a compile error in one class that makes use of reflection. The compiler doesn't find java.lang.reflect.AnnotatedElement, which is referenced by class "Class". But this implementation is obviously a Java 5 one as AnnotatedElement wasn't introduced before. The source code for "Class" also has got some Java 5 syntax in it.
But project settings (a simple Java project BTW) say JDK 1.4 compliance and the target platform WAS 6.0 should say the same (as 6.0 supports max JDK 1.4 AFAIK).

So why does the RAD compiler think that the classes have to be compiled with Java 5?
Any hints?

Regards,
Alex

Do you have any server profiles created?
(check runtimes\base_v61\profiles folder)
If not then go to the runtimes\base_v61\bin\ProfileManagement directory and run pmt.bat to create a profile.

Then within RAD7, right-click on the server panel, go to new > server, and pick the right profile, enter server name.

Back in the startServer command, you should be able to start the server by something like "startServer server1".

Hi,

The problem with me is something strange.
First I deleted the default WAS server 6.0 and WAS server 6.1 from RSA 7.0.0
After that I tried creating new one by right clicking in server view and clicking on new -> server. But nothing is coming onto the screen (Generally a popup window appears to create the new Server).

Please reply me ASAP as it is very neceessary to start the server to test the defects.

Thanks

• struts editor: it's still there, just not shown when "Web Developer" capabilities are disabled. Go to Preferences -> Capabilities to turn on the capabilities. I believe you need to turn on all of the capabilities to make it show up.

• this error is to be expected as the resource is not a local one in the workspace. Right now page designer only works with local resources. Since CVS view doesn't provide a "Open with..." choice, you'd have to change the file associations from the preferences to open it with another editor such as JSP Editor.

Expired JDBC Driver error in rAd7

‏2007-01-19T21:26:20Z  in response to msiegel
Hi,
I am trying to set up datasources in RAd7. I chose JDBC universal driver for my db2 connection. and get the following error:
The test connection operation failed for data source NPPdatasource on server server1 at node PAVLOVA_NEWNode01 with the following exception: java.sql.SQLException: ibmdb2jcc107811539 Expired JDBC driver. IBM DB2 JDBC Universal Driver Architecture 3.0.251 Test Build expired on 12/30/06 12:00 AM.DSRA0010E: SQL State = null, Error Code = -99,999. View JVM logs for further details.

What does this mean? How could the driver that came with the installation be expired?

Some issues with UML2 and Transformation API changes, etc.

‏2007-01-29T13:52:52Z  in response to msiegel
Hi,

actually I haven't touched RSM for a while however yesterday I took my time to take a deep look and actually to migrate our existing database modeler plugin into the new version Without any modifications I had about 570 errors (over about 450k of source).
1. Migration of UML features

First thing first, I search-and-replaced all org.eclipse.uml2 references to the new org.eclipse.uml2.uml hierarchy, which resulted in only 68 errors left. Happy I was :-)

Then I started the migration tool (remember you have to enable it in the Preferences menu...) which resulted other eight errors to vanish. The remaining 50-some issues showed the following distribution:

• Most of them were caused by changes in the UML2 API according to the pattern of some methods concerned of getting a model item simply by its name from the parent item (like a class's attributes, or an operation's parameters) in the previous version now have altered their signature into getting the item by the name AND type. First I was shocked - it would have caused us a lot of stress to refactor our plugin and travel all the type information as well - then I realized that null can be assigned to the type parameter, so I only had to expand the parameter list. An alternative version of this pattern is in connection with UMLFactory constructors: some signatures have been changed so that named elements could not be created without a name - again the name parameter can be null :-) However this led to the question: why the hell were the previous versions of these methods purged? :-))) The only result of this step is that ISVs from now have to support two separate and totally incompatible - I mean formally - plugin branches without any substantive differences. This has just doubled our future work ;-)
• Some other changes originated from a possibble bug in the migration tool: some method references were completely changed to another ones leaving compilation errors. For instance most applyStereotype calls were replaced with applyProfile.
• MultiplicityElement.UNLIMITED_UPPER_BOUND was dropped, this caused a lot of problems.
• Due to the changes in the IBM (C) Transformation API, beyond the trivial compilation problems some rules went to obsolate - we need further time to investigate the possibble costs of the complete migration. (Actually in the previous versions the validation phase information did not travel to the execution phase, due to the fact that the context object itself was cloned instead of being simply referred. I don't know if there has been any changes in this aspect.)

A positive thing is that the overall documentation of the UML2 package has reached an acceptable level. Thank you very much.
2. Migration of Eclipse 3.2 features

Unfortunately due to the fact that the open-sourced base platform of the Atlantic (later Baltic, and now Kaspian) release products is permanently "moving" a lot of issues arise from the changes inside the Eclipse framework. Besides the undeniable positive effects of the 3.2 framework (performance increase, etc.) this lead our plugin not even to appear in the menu and our preference pages to go completely off. Hard nut to crack, most possibbly. I will try to look around the eclpise sites however any help would be warmly appreciated! (I noticed that the "Modell explorer" window has disappeared and has been replaced by a new instance, called "Project explorer". Does it implicate that all our pop-up-menu entries should be replaced?)

3. Other issues

• In the 6.x versions, contrary to the UML2 standard, stereotype tags could not be typed by simply using the descendants (implementators) of the Type metaclass, you had to import a special library to achieve this for basic UML types (like Integer, String, etc.) and basic Java types. I thought that this has changed in the new version - in accordance most other leading UML modeler tools - and I was partly right, the type selection window has undergone some changes. However you are still unable to select from the standard UML metaclasses, you can only choose the basic types - as long as you imported the library. Try the following: create a new stereotype (on for example the Class metaclass) and select its baseclass attribte. Click on "Select Type". The list is empty, again. Even the type of the hard-wired attributes could not be selected appropriately, using the GUI! Any suggestions?
• Is there any hope to have some sort of a meta-class-diagram in order to have metaclass (eg. stereotype) inheritance relations visualized? Now its quite uncomfortable.
• As some other people have noticed as well (see http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/forums/dw_thread.jsp?forum=430&thread=150899&cat=24), there is a lot of work to be done in the field of document generation. In the 6.x versions stereotype tagvalues could not be seen through SoDa bridge - which lead many of our customers off the product. Is there any improvement in this aspect? The built in documentation generating capabilities are nowhere close to SoDa. (I mean SoDa and Rose :-p)

I am looking forward to your kind suggestions, concerns, ideas. Any help is appretiated.

Sincerely yours: K.F.

Check within RAD 7 on the server panel the value of RMI and SOAP port, they could be different from the right ones your server is using.
You can check the right values on the console, some lines before "open for e-business".

In RAD 7, even if you are installing final version, to make the licence permanent, you need to start installation manager and click on Manage Licences. There you browse to a location within your expanded installation to RAD-License and select the RADLic.jar and proceed. Maybe same thing could be available for RSA.

V7 profiling and logging

‏2007-02-18T23:57:15Z  in response to msiegel
I'm unable to get the profiling and logging working. I used a tutorial https://www6.software.ibm.com/dw/education/r/rappltuning/ (based on RADv6)to try things out, apart from a few menu's changing it should be ok. I can run the ThreeTierQueue and philosopher examples via normal RUN but under profiling nothing is monitored even when removing all the java filters. Nothing appears on the console view and when i try to terminate the item in 'profiling monitor' it remains seemingly active.
Any clues as to what's up?

v7.0.0.1 fix pack issues

‏2007-02-21T22:08:47Z  in response to msiegel
using the Profile & logging function in RADv7 was progressing nicely until fix pack 7.0.0.1.
Several problems came up and ended in having to recreate my workspace & re-add WAS 6 server instances, however some issues still persist.
I'm unable to start the server in 'profile' mode, the native_stderr.log contains - The java class is not found: Files/IBM/SDP70Shared/plugins/org/eclipse/hyades/execution/win32/x86_4/2/0/v200606131519/
the path exists if you replace the / with . from plugins but doesn't show what class it's got problems with.
The other issue is trying to start a profile in 'profile & logging' perspective, it fails with 'could not set up program arguments'. There were some present in the arguments tab which appeared by default, the message still appears when those & the VM arguments have been deleted.
Has anyone else come across these issues?

V7 J2EE perspective

‏2007-02-23T16:11:38Z  in response to msiegel
I posted this separate thread, but meant to include in this thread. Since I got no response, I want to try again...

Upgrading from RAD 6.01 to RAD 7.

When opening the J2EE perspective, I no longer see the directory structure I saw in RAD 6 -

In RAD 6, the project explorer shows 'Enterprise Applications' 'Application Client Projects' 'Connector Projects'...'Dynamic Web Projects'...

In RAD 7 I am just seeing the projects I created in a vanilla looking project explorer view.

Is this an intentional change, or am I doing something wrong/missing something?

I attached screenshots.

My response got posted to wrong thread, hence reposting

I had opened a PMR with IBM for this where I was informed that this functionality does not exist in RAD 7 because many of the customers did not like the feature and that they have opened a feature request for this. The problem I had with agreeing with the reason of removal being customers not liking it is that it is not clear to me why would this option be eliminated, especially when users were free to not use it if they did not like it. I had communicated this with IBM too. There are other posts in this forum requesting the same thing. I was also told by an IBM person that 'Opening a feature request does not mean the development will implement it. You need to push hard with your IBM account representative to make this feature request a high priority'

This means various users need to talk with IBM to get this a high priority.

WSAD 5.1.2 -&gt; RAD 7.0: Can't get WTE to startup

‏2007-03-01T03:38:57Z  in response to msiegel
I'm receiving the following error when trying to startup a WebSphere 5.1 server in my WTE with my existing Enterprise Application (J2EE 1.3):

"java.lang.Exception: examEJBBindingXMI Define the data sources in the server configuration using the server configuration editor and try again."

If I startup the server without the application, the server starts up correctly with messages that the datasources are binding correctly. If I add the application, the server displays a pop-up window, with the above message, almost instantaneously (without outputting anything to the console).

I'm fairly certain that the issue lies within the Enterprise Application Project as opposed to the server configuration.

This project is originally from a WSAD 5.1.2 workspace. I successfully imported it into RAD 7.0, built it and even did a "Prepare for Deployment" on it. All projects that are associated to the Enterprise Application are correctly configured as EJBs and regular projects.

My co-worker and I recreated the server configurations for WAS 5.1 in RAD 7.0 and both are receiving the same error.

Hi,
We migrated our development from RAD 6 to RSA 7.We successfully installed RSA 7 and Websphere Portal Test Environment 5.1.0.1, but we faced with some problems.

So , we need help in the following issues:

1. Is there any Portal UTE Update for 5.1.0.4 that could be installed with Installation Manager ? We have such update , but it's for RAD/RSA v 6 and it request Rational Updater in order to install it.
2. This is the major problem :
Any Portlet Project that has been created with RSA 7 cannot be deployed on Websphere Portal Test Environment, but it's working only if we use Websphere Portal Server Attach .

This is the error we get at publish step:

3/1/07 9:17:08:703 EET 542df9ec ApplicationMg W WSVR0100W: An error occurred initializing, testingEAR

Observation:
1.The portlet applications created under RAD 6 , are working well in RSA 7 and Websphere Portal Test Environment .
2. I repeatedly tried to remove the application , make a new publish and add it again, but it's not working at all.

Re: V7 installation/transition issues

I am having trouble deploying JSF web applications from RAD7 to a WAS6.1 server running on AIX. My JSF web app works fine in RAD6/WAS6 environment, and I have imported it into RAD7 environment.

I am able to deploy my JSF web app to WAS6.1 running on Windows (the embedded server that is installed with RAD). It works, with some minor issues.

I am NOT able to deploy the same web app to WAS6.1 running on AIX. (WAS 6.1.0.5, Build Number: cf50652.12, Build Date: 12/28/06; AIX 5.3). I deploy to WAS6.1 on AIX, and when I bring up the page, I get the traceback shown below:

3/6/07 14:26:38:209 MST 00000024 SystemOut O java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com.ibm.wtp.internal.encoders.EncoderDecoder
at java.lang.J9VMInternals.verifyImpl(Native Method)

at com.ibm.websphere.sdo.access.connections.ConnectionManager.createJDBCConnection(ConnectionManager.java:100)
at pagecode.EndpointStatus.getSDOConnectionWrapper(EndpointStatus.java:282)
at pagecode.EndpointStatus.getStatusListMediator(EndpointStatus.java:918)
...

I have reviewed the RAD7 README files, and under Limitations, section 1.2, Migrating pre-V7 JSF applications, see the following:

"If you import a pre-V7 JSF application without migrating the JSF JARS and continue to develop the application, tags that are new in V7 will not be included in the project JARs and will not be available at runtime. Ensure that you migrate pre-V7 JARS."

Any suggestions on how to do this migration? I am not convinced this will help me as I can run this imported pre-V7 JSF app on the Windows WAS6.1.

Any suggestions or ideas are greatly appreciated!

After much searching, I discovered a section in the RAD7 help titled "Updating Faces runtime resources for Web projects from V6.0.x"

The procedure documented here generally worked for me, although I tweeked it some get everything working in my environment.

In summary, you create a test project, add a few components to it to get the desired libraries. Then, import your V6 WAR file, and replace the imported libraries with those from your test project. Simple! :)

Here are my step by step instructions:

Migration Process

Once you have RAD7 installed, perform the following steps:
(The process below finally worked, after much frustration. There are probably other ways that will also work, but this process should repeatable, almost bullet proof...).

First, create a working test project and make sure it can be deployed to WAS6.1 servers on localhost and on your production server.

1. Create a new Dynamic Web Project. Call it RAD7Test. Call the associated EAR file RAD7TestEAR.
2. Select Next button to see list of Project Facets. Make sure that Base Faces Support, Enhanced Faces Components, JDBC Mediator and JSTL are selected.
3. Select Finish to complete the project.
4. From Project menu, be sure "Build Automatically" is selected.
5. In Project Explorer, navigate to Rad7Test project, and WebContent. Right click and create a new Web Page.
6. In Page Data, right click on Relational Records and create a new Relational Record List.
7. On the second panel, Record List Properties, click New... button to find or create a connection to your database server.
9. Select a record to display.
10. Add the new SDO to your test web page, and select any formating options.
11. Save the JSP file.
12. Run the page (and deploy it) on WAS6.1 on localhost and your production server. Verify that it works in both environments.
13. Create a second Web Page in RAD7Test project.
14. From the Enhanced Faces Components palette, drag "Panels - Tabbed" component onto the new page. Also drag "Input - Rich Text Area" onto the page. OK the dialog asking about the copy of new resources into your project. Note that this can sometimes take several minutes to complete.
15. Save the JSP file, but you don't need to deploy or execute this page.

Next, import the WAR file that was exported from RAD6.

1. From Project menu, be sure "Build Automatically" is selected.
2. In Project Explorer, right click and select Import -> WAR File and navigate to the path for the WAR file.
3. Enter an EAR file name consistent with the Web project name.
4. You may be presented with dialog boxes about the project containing Faces resources that are not uptodate. Select Yes to allow newer resources to be used.
5. Open one of the imported project's Web pages / JSP files that contains relational record data. Verify that the Page Data shows the relational records you expect. If you don't see any relational reecords, delete the imported Web Project and assoicated EAR project and re-import. Be sure to delete file system contents along with the projects. This is very, very strange, but on the second import the relational records typically show up.
6. From the Page Data panel, right click one of the relational records, and select Configure the connection.
7. Select "Configure Project's Database Connection". In the lower panel called Runtime connection details, select Edit, and select "Use Driver Manager Connection".
8. Save the JSP file.
9. Run the page (and deploy it) on WAS6.1 on localhost. At this point, all of the pages should work correctly on localhost, but not on WAS6.1 on your production server.
10. Stop RAD7.
11. Bring up two copies of Windows Explorer application and navigate each to one of the following paths:
* <workspacepath>\RAD7Test\WebContent\WEB-INF\lib
* <workspacepath>\<importedProjectName>\WebContent\WEB-INF\lib
12. From Windows Explorer, delete all of the jar files in <importedProjectName>\...\lib directory.
13. From Windows Explorer, copy all of the jar files in RAD7Test\...\lib directory into <importedProjectName>\...\lib directory.
14. Start RAD7.
15. From Project menu item, select Properties, and then "Java Build Path". On the "Order and Export" tab, deselect EAR libraries and OK. This will force the workspace to be rebuilt, picking up the changes in the jar files.
16. From Project menu item, select Properties, and then "Java Build Path". On the "Order and Export" tab, reselect EAR libraries and OK to return this item to its original setting.
17. From Project menu item, select Properties, and then "Java Build Path". On the Libraries tab, and ensure the jar files listed under "Web App Libraries" are those that were copied above. OK this selection.
18. Run any of the web pages on localhost and your production server.

Hi there,

Do you see this in RAD7, or RAD6?

This generally occurs because the SDO ConnectionManager class was compiled against a different version of WebSphere® Application Server than is used by Portal 5.1 (or whichever server you are running on), and when using a Driver Manager connection, it tries to execute code that is not in the Portal 5.1 runtime.

To avoid the problem, use a datasource connection to connect to your database instead of using a Driver Manager connection.

Alternately, as a workaround, you can use a Driver Manager connection, but unencrypt your password in your application's deployment descriptor (web.xml) file, as shown below:

In the web.xml, you can see an env-entry like:
<env-entry>
<env-entry-name>SAMPLE</env-entry-name>
<env-entry-type>java.lang.String</env-entry-type>
<env-entry-value>jdbc:db2://server:51000/SAMPLE:
retrieveMessagesFromServerOnGetMessage=true;
,com.ibm.db2.jcc.DB2Driver,db2admin,
{xor}KXswJzosKwy=</env-entry-value>
</env-entry>
If you replace the encrypted string:
"{xor}KXswJzosKwy="
with your plain-text password, such as "mypassword", you should not encounter this error.
Hope that helps,
Tom

In RSA 7: com.ibm.ws.webservices cannot be resolved, problem with library

‏2007-03-14T17:14:14Z  in response to msiegel
In RSA 7.0 I imported an integration project which uses WebSphere Application Server v6.0/AppServer/lib/webservices.jar. This project was originally build in RSA6. I imported as existing project into RSA 7.0 workspace and I started getting this error:

"com.ibm.ws.webservices.engine cannot be resolved to a type"

I can see project classes with this error using com.ibm.ws.webservices.engine.enum.Use and com.ibm.ws.webservices.engine.enum.Style. When I do Open Type (CTRL+SHFT+T) I can see these classes under webservices.jar.

I changed by Java Build Path -> Libraries to:
WAS Install directory/AppServer/lib
then also changed to
RSA 7 Install directory/runtimes/base_v6/lib

but still could not resolve the problem. Does anyone know how to resolve this problem in RSA 7.0. I googled and found resolution of a similar problem with WSAD, but this did not work for me:

Problem solved!

It worked for me by changing Java Compiler to JDK 1.4 in RSA 7:

Project Properties -> Java Compiler -> check Enable project specifc settiings -> select 1.4 from drop down for Compiler Compliance level.

Simply replace the package path com.ibm.ws.webservices.engine.enum with com.ibm.ws.webservices.engine.enumtype. Keep everything else just as is.

Do a clean recompilation in RAD or Eclipse. Worked for me.

Problems with Sequence Diagrams when moving from RSA 6.0.1 to RSA 7.0.0.1

‏2007-03-21T15:18:04Z  in response to msiegel
We have a UML model with hundreds of Sequence Diagrams. When I migrate to RSA 7.0.0.1 most of the sequence diagrams have truncated lifelines with a grey "X" at the point where the lifeline is truncated. By truncated I mean that the lifeline does not extend to the bottom of the diagram encompassing all the methods that should be on it. The last method or the return method is still there, but it is not on the lifeline. The lifeline cannot be sized by pulling it down. If I remove the return message and re-add it then it gets added below where the "X" is and it still doesn't land on the lifeline.

Any ideas?

Also, when I migrate I lose the signature on all the methods and it is difficult to get it back. Instead of just changing the Filter to "signature" I have to re-select the method from the drop down list in the diagram. Not good.

I attached a sample diagram with the "X" on it.

I did figure out the problem with the "X" on the lifeline. The "X" is actually a "<Destruction Event>". If you select the "X" and delete it from the Model the lifeline drops to the bottom like it should.

I still have and cannot solve the second issue which is that I lose all the method signatures when I migrate to RSA 7.0.0.1. I can re-select them from the drop down list, but I don't want to have to re-select them all.

There is an option, in the Preferences :

Hi all,

since working with RAD 7 and using the latest Checkstyle plugin version we see program terminations when doing full rebuilds of the workspace or other "major" build actions (i.e. not only one project). This is reproducible.
Our workspace consists of one EA project, one web project, 20 EJB and about 45 normal Java projects.
After deactivating Checkstyle the program terminations disappear. You can see the problem source in the progress bar, too. Short before termination the last action is the Checkstyle builder working on some project (not always the same one).

I also see some connection to the "Build automatically" flag turned on or off. If it's off and you work your way through the projects to manually compile them the terminations don't appear "that often".

So after Checkstyle is widely used, didn't make problems in WSAD 5 and doesn't lead to such problems in Eclipse 3.x (not as far as I know), I wonder if some RAD specifics lead to these abortions.

Does anyone noticed such behaviour or even found a cure for it?

Well, maybe it's really a Checkstyle issue...

Regards,
Alex

I just installed the Checkstyle plugin in my RSA 7 yesterday and now I find that my RSA will just shut down and close when I am rebuilding my projects. Is this the program termination you are talking about as well? I have mainly Portlet projects in my environment. I have my Build automatically flag turned off.

I haven't paid much attention to the progress bar to see what the last action it is executing, but will start now. Also I will deactive Checkstyle and see if that helps.

I deactived the Checkstyle on my project that I rebuild and now it works correctly; my RSA doesn't crash when when I rebuild it.

Hello Renee!

So it seems that you stumbled upon the same problem.
And solved it the same way...

But of course deactivating Checkstyle is the worse option as it should help in developing your software and not hinder you.
What seems to help a bit is to turn off automatic build, rebuild the broken projects manually and afterwards reactivate automatic build. With this you get a chance that Checkstyle can remain active and you get your projects built.
But sadly this is just a buggy solution and its not very smart, too.

Regards,

I had similar problem installing RSA 6, maybe you are facing the same problem.

Apparently all IBM shell scripts for Linux are written in bash. The scripts assume that /bin/sh is linked to /bin/bash, which in most Linux distribs is true, but not for Ubuntu. In Ubuntu, the link /bin/sh points to another shell: /bin/dash (with "d").

Solution:

All you have to do is remove the link (rm /bin/sh) and relink it to bash (ln -s /bin/bash /bin/sh).

After installation you may return the link to dash. In case you do it, just run the attached script in the installation directory to change all sh files to point to /bin/bash.

Issues looking up datasource in JNDI for RAD 7 Websphere 6.1

‏2007-05-08T17:01:07Z  in response to msiegel
I'm upgrading some legacy apps to run on Websphere 6.1 (currently on 4.x on zSeries). I created the data connection against DB2 UDB zSeries 7 (using that driver) and tested it successfully. Then I configured the web project to use that connection as a datasource using com.ibm.db2.jcc.DB2ConnectionPoolDataSource. I modified the code to access the database in the following manner:

Context ctx = new InitialContext();
datasource = (DataSource)(ctx.lookup("java:comp/env/"+jndiname));

When that code runs, the datasource value returned is actually a String:
jdbc:db2://<host>:<port>/<databasename>:retrieveMessagesFromServerOnGetMessage=true;,com.ibm.db2.jcc.DB2Driver,<userid>,<password>

and the error is:
java.lang.ClassCastException: java.lang.String incompatible with javax.sql.DataSource

I have used the same exact code with another datasource created against SQLServer and it returned a datasource. I'm really confused why it's returning a String. I believe the lookup name that I'm providing is correct because when I try different values, I get a naming exception. Any ideas?

I solved the problem. I had configured the JDBC data source within the project properties of the web project. I found this tutorial: http://www.webagesolutions.com/knowledgebase/waskb/waskb029/index.html and followed the instructions to configure it in the enterprise project and it worked.

We have seen three separate problems. I opened problem reports on the first two, and 2 enhancement requests on the last one. I'm on RSA 7.0.0.2.

1. The IDE crashes when performing file system browse operations. The JVM will exit with a messagebox, typically after going up or down several levels in the file system hierarchy. I get no core, trace, or other diagnostic files (any help in getting these would be appreciated). I thought it was something specific to my machine, until another developer had the same problem. It may be related to having multiple JDKs installed on the machine (IBM/SUN, 1.4, 1.5, and 1.6), and they are fighting among themselves with environment classpath/path/registry settings and may be conflicting. It's using the installed RSA7 jvm according to the Eclipse command line -vm option.

2. Can't perform UML to Java 1.5 transformations with Enumeration Literals. It throws java.lang.ClassCastException: org.eclipse.jdt.core.dom.EnumDeclaration incompatible with org.eclipse.jdt.core.dom.TypeDeclaration

3. No longer able to export model to UML2 format. We need this to be able to use the RSA models as input to other tools (AndroMDA, OptimalJ) which have not yet migrated to UML 2.1. The second enhancement request was to be able to save the 'export to UML2' settings in RSA6 instead of having to browse for the model and output directory EVERY time we want to export the model, something we will probably do dozens of times each day.

I have tried to migrate a web (and ear) project from RAD 6 to RAD 7 but I have a problem with the Web Deployment Descriptor (web.xml).

When I try to open web.xml with the Deployment Descriptor Editor in RAD 7 it results in the error message: "IWAE0028E The selected input is not valid for this type of editor. Redirecting to the XML editor."

Also, the associated ear-project displays one error: "The deployment descriptor of the module 'Test.war' cannot be loaded."

How do I convert the Web Deployment Descriptor for projects created in RAD 6 to be accepted in RAD 7?

Originally I fetched my projects from our source control management system but I also have tried to use a Project Interchange file and I have tried to search for migration or validation tools but nothing worked.

I had similar error along with other errors when upgrading from RAD 6 to 7. It doesn't seem to handle upgrading existing projects very well. In the end, it was a lot less pain and work to just create a new project and migrate the existing files into it. I manually recreated the deployment descriptors.

I have solved my immediate problem.

The way to migrate the projects is either to export the projects as a Project Interchange file from RAD 6 and afterwards to import this file in RAD 7, or to let RAD 7 migrate a complete RAD 6 workspace.

I have not tried the second options as I want to start with a clean, configured workspace in RAD 7.

In my first attempt I had problems with the Project Interchange file and it was revealed that it was due to a "hidden" error in the Web Deployment Descriptor. The hidden error was that I have removed the source directory, but without a source directory the Web Deployment Descriptor cannot be edited (in RAD 6) - but otherwise the project functions fine.
I had to recreate a source directory to have the automatic migration in the Project Interchange file to work; otherwise the import doesn't change anything.

I have my source files in a version control system (PVCS) and with the Project Interchange solution I finally have to reconnect the projects to the version control system after the import and then try to figure out how many files have been changed and need to be checked into the version control system.

Using the Project Interchange file as an intermediate file can works but in my opinion it is not a very elegant solution, especially when the files normally are in a version control system.

Also the migration doesn't do as much cleaning up as recreating the projects from scratch. Missing files (e.g. a .settings folder is created) are created but unnecessary files in RAD 7 are not removed.

I can't speak for PVCS, but I find that having to use the Project Interchange is unacceptable with ClearCase. We have a large number of projects to migrate, and having to hack around with importing code back into version control seems to be the wrong approach.

I agree with starting with a clean workspace on V7, but you might still consider the other option - opening a V6 workspace w/ V7. (I would make a copy of that workspace first, so you could go back if necessary). Just look at the step of opening the workspace with V7 as the last step "before" going to V7. Open the workspace w/ V7, get the projects to change, check in the changes, then open a nice clean V7 workspace, import the projects, and go from there.

Of course, it would be better if V7 could properly open the V6 projects in a new workspace...

I had the exact problem and found a simple workaround. After bringing the existing RAD 6.0 projects into the new RAD 7.0 from CVS I did a "Clean". All of the IWAE0028E problems went away. I think there may have been 6.0 specific remnants in CVS.

We are experiencing some problems regarding our transition from WSAD 5.1.2 to RSA 7.0.0.2.

We have 3 web projects using the same source project. The 3 webapplications are exported to the same EAR. When we run the projects on a webserver (WAS 5.1.1.14), the webmodules are initialized and some init methods are run for each application in order to setup some properties. However when the second and third web_module is initialized, they simply overwrites the properties of the beforegoing module. It seems like they are using the same instance of the java class (which stores the properties), when they ideally should keep one copy each of the java-class.

This was not a problem in wsad, so I wonder if someone has any idea what may be the problem here?

You have the wrong class loader model.
It each WAR should have a Module class loader model.

I just migrate my current EAR to this new version (from RSA 6). When I add the EAR to the WAS 6.1 server, the EJB deployed code contains many errors like that:

codeThe method _invoke(OutputStream) is undefined for the type _EJSWrapper_Stub
The app is working without any problem, I have tested EJBs and they are OK, it's just annoying to see all those errors....

Okay, I found the problem there... Really easy, I don't think it will happen often, but I prefer to document anyway, just in case...

So, I had a external 3rd-party JAR with all the same CORBA class. Maybe those classes shipped with the JAR were older, because they were not implemented the same way (some method signature was a little bit different). I just reorganize the build path in the order/export tab to put the CORBA class of WAS before the 3rd-party JAR and it made it...

Hope it will help somebody someday...

Ciao ciao!

In WSAD 5.x (on Win XP) I had multiple workspaces with each workspace using it's own embedded test 5.x WS server. There were no problems, each embedded test server kept track of it's own EARs.
But now in RAD7 I define an EAR in one workspace and deploy to the embedded test WS 6.1 server, then I go to another workspace and define another EAR and deploy it to the embedded test WS 6.1 server, and I find that both EARs from the two workspaces are brought up by the embedded test server.
This seems like completely new and different behavior of the test embedded WS 6.1 server. Is there a redbook or an article or a link that explains these differences from local embedded server behavior in WSAD 5.x? Same question for definition of jdbc connections via jndi in multiple workspaces.

I found a link to a redbook "WebSphere Application Server V6.1: Planning and Design" that has a good chapter (chap 4) called "WebSphere Application Server Concepts". (Link: http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/abstracts/sg247305.html?Open ).
This was helpful to get the big picture regarding CELLS, NODES, and SERVERS.
In RAD 7 when defining a new server there are options for WS v5.1 Server and WS v5.1 Test Environment but there is only one option for WS v6.1 which is "WebSphere v6.1 Server". There is no option for a test WS v6.1 server.
RAD 7, when "WS v6.1" is chosen, does not let the "Websphere profile name" be changed from the fixed value of "AppSrv01". (The dropdown only has one entry).
It seems obvious (but it does not actually say it) that the WS 6.1 server in RAD 7 is an "Express" or "Base" configuration where there is one cell containing one node containing one server. The name seems to always be "server1".
Section 4.1 of the redbook says that each standalone server is created by defining an application server profile. It says that each profile contains files specific to that runtime such as logs and config files. All profiles share the product binaries and by default are stored in a sub-directory of the installation directory.
So, "AppSrv01" seems to be the name of that profile. Doing a search for "AppSrv01" in the RAD 7 workspace yields 3 hits, the first being "Servers.xml" in ".metadata\.plugins\org.eclipse.wst.server.core".
I hope somebody can take the ball from here and run a little further with it. There seems to be a problem when pointing RAD 7 to a different workspace where it merges the Servers.xml from multiple workspaces into a single instance of the WS 6.1 server.
This is not what I want at all.
I want each workspace I point RAD 7 to, to have it's own (logical) WS 6.1 server sandboxed so that it that does not know about any other workspace's EARS or JDBC settings.
Is this possible? Anybody know how to do it?

Looking into this further, a search for the name of the EAR file I deployed from within a workspace in RAD7 to the embedded WS 6.1 server finds a hit in the RAD7 install directory at this location:

c:\progfile\IBM\SDP70\runtimes\base_v61\profiles\AppSrv01\temp\B1RXGC0D1Node01\server1\tuesRoundupEAR

The key fact seems to be that even though I installed the EAR from within a workspace, it resulted in entries being made within the RAD7 install directory under a profile named "AppSrv01".

It would appear that the problem of co-mingling of EAR files is related to the fact that RAD7 seems to always use the "AppSrv01" profile for the server regardless of which workspace RAD7 is connected to. RAD7 apparently keeps track of some information about the EAR file in the ".metadata" sub-directory of the workspace (note each workspace has it's own separate directory) but keeps other information about the EAR in the shared "AppSrv01" subdirectory where RAD7 is installed.

Surely there must be a redbook or a whitepaper or a link out there somewhere that has more information about this pollution of EAR files from one RAD7 workspace into another RAD7 workspace when using the embedded WS 6.1 server.

Hello Robert,

obviously you found out that RAD now comes with a WebSphere version that is closer to a "real WAS" than the embedded one before. It's standalone, is startable outside RAD, got the full blown admin console and so on.
While this might be nice as it might be closer to a productive or test environment you get some problems like you mentioned before. The connection between RAD and WAS is also a bit loose now. Sometimes RAD doesn't get console output anymore, sometimes it cannot connect to the WAS ports, and so on.
I don't have a solution to your problem as I didn't have to face it til now (can happen in the future though) but all in all I would call RAD7 a step back after WSAD 5.
Having the power of Eclipse 3 (multi threading, more comfort) and it's available plugins is valuable but on the other hand every member of our team experiences other (often similar) problems with this IDE. Class files are not compiled correctly, RAD terminates during a complete workspace build, classpath entries are changed automatically and get erroneous, often projects have to be cleaned because the IDE cannot delete some files. Doh!

Ok, now I somehow managed to digress away from your initial problem.
I'd be glad to hear of a solution.

~Alex

You can create a WAS profile for each workspace or once WAS is up and running remove the Enterprise App from the server.

Creating a profile for each workspace is the easiest to do, but requires additional resources.

Could you explain how to create a WAS profile for use with a 2nd and subsequent workspaces?

The only profile I see from which to choose is the default "AppSrv01". That profile lives in a 195 megabyte directory named (on my PC) C:\progfile\IBM\SDP70\runtimes\base_v61\profiles\AppSrv01.

(Yet) another annoyance is that when I make a backup copy of the workspace each night it's too large in size for me to also make a backup of the profile directory. And besides that 195meg profile directory has jndi, jdbc, etc., definitions somewhere in it that I would like to back up but the other 99 percent seems to be dlls and binaries, etc., that never change. Back in the good old days of WSADS 5x and WS5x my backup of the workspace included a backup of the server as well.

To create a different WAS 6.1 profile:
In RAD click on -Window,-Preferences, -Server then -WebSphere
Then follow the step by Step instructions on creating a WAS instance you need.

Thanks for this information! I did exactly as you said and am now the happy owner of two WS 6.1 server profiles. It automatically names them sequentially, so the second one ends in 2.
They consume 200meg per server profile, which is larger than my workspaces. What I would like to have now is a way to put into the backup I make each night of my workspace a compressed copy of the corresponding server profile.
Is there a utility or option that can be run to extract from the 200meg server profile the information needed to recreate it? It would really be annoying to say the least, to lose the PC and have the workspaces on backup but not all the jdbc, jndi, etc., configurations made to the corresponding server profile.

I'm so glad it's not just me, that the problems I experience with RAD7 and WS6.1 are happening to others.

You mentioned how console output sometimes does not make it back to RAD7. That happened to me at my last job with WS6.0 and it went on for months. Imagine trying to debug with no console output.... I had to do it that way.

Here at my current job we have a production web application that works fine in WS5x. It RAD7 and WS6.1 however some of the larger pages don't work at all on the local PC. The cpu goes to 100% and the WS6.1 hangs. Those same pages work in the DEV and QA Linux boxes under ws6.1 but response time is 30 seconds for jsp pages that come back quickly in WS5x.

JSP pages that compile perfectly in WSADS 5x result in sporadic JSP compile errors in RAD7 and WS6.1 that come and go with no pattern.

We were very productive in WS5.x but now that we have been forced to work in WS6.1 we are losing dozens and dozens of hours in frustrating workarounds and slow response time. Some of the problems using RAD7 and WS6.1 seem unsolveable.

I don't know what we are going to do. This is really horrible. Everything was so nice when the standard at this company was WS5.x.

Well, the "lost log" is annoying but at least there's a workaround.
The log is still there in the servers log directory and you can e.g. tail it or open it with you favourite editor.

Regarding JSPs we also had to change some things to make them compile in RAD7 as now the validator is more strict than before. That's not really a bad thing but a fact one has to know when upgrading.

Other than that sporadic compile problems are on our agenda all the time.

Re: RAD 6 workspace into RAD 7

‏2007-07-03T14:10:11Z  in response to msiegel
I've seen numerous posts about migrating a RAD 6 workspace to RAD 7 (actually, I am using RSA 7.0.0.3). I have tried the different strategies, but none of those has worked for me. I tried taking a RAD 6 workspace and opening it in RAD 7. I've tried exporting my RAD 6 workspace as a Project Interchange file, and importing it into RAD 7. I've also tried extracting files from CMVC.

In every case, RAD 7 does not know what kind of a project it is (EJB, Web, EAR), even though the .project file is there. The other issue is the .classpath file, since the names of the JRE prefix and WAS runtime prefix have all changed.

In order to get a RAD 6 workspace to work in RAD 7, I have had to do the following manually:

1. Change the .classpath file to use the new prefixes:
<classpathentry kind="con" path="org.eclipse.jdt.launching.JRE_CONTAINER/org.eclipse.jdt.internal.debug.ui.launcher.StandardVMType/WebSphere v5.1 JRE"/>
<classpathentry kind="con" path="org.eclipse.jst.server.core.container/com.ibm.ws.ast.st.runtime.runtimeTarget.v51/was.base.v51"/>

2. Change the .project file to include the new <buildspec> and <natures> entries that RAD 7 recognizes.

3. Add a .settings/org.eclipse.wst.common.project.facet.core.xml for the type of project (EJB, Web, EAR).

4. Add a .settings/org.eclipse.wst.common.component describing the exact modules and dependencies of the project (this is taking me forever!).
Without #1, the project won't compile. Without both #2 and #3, the project doesn't know its own nature (whether it's EJB, Web, EAR, etc.). Without #4, I can't use the Deployment Descriptor Editor.
This whole process is killing me. I have about 100 projects that I have to do this with. Is no one else seeing these problems? I'm not sure why the other things I've tried aren't working at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I discovered what my problem was. My files were all read-only, so RSA 7 couldn't update the .project file. After making them read/write, the workspace seems to have been migrated successfully.

I tried migrating my RAD 6 workspace by opening the RAD 6 workspace in RAD 7, but I couldn't add any of my EARs to the WAS test server. The dialog that shows EAR projects that can be added was empty (Add/Remove Projects window).

So I created a brand new workspace in RAD 7 and imported all my RAD 6 projects. That sort of worked in the sense that I could deploy the EARs to a WAS 6.0 test server (in RAD 7) and our application started OK.

But when I went to go add a new "Java JAR Dependency" (RAD 6 term), aka "J2EE Module Dependency" (RAD 7 term), I got an error dialog (don't recall what it said). I ended up discovering that there were missing Builders and Natures in my .project file. I discovered this by creating a project in RAD 7 and comparing the .project file with one created in RAD 6. I removed obsolete builders, and added the new builders and natures to the .project file.

This has been a nightmarish upgrade, and I am still not done, as I still need to figure out what to do to make our projects target WAS 6.1 instead of WAS 6.0.

I'm trying to convert an EJB project from RAD6 to RAD7. Unlike some of my other projects, the CMP data doesn't get migrated. The same thing happens regardless of whether I open the project for the first time, or whether I use the Project Interchange to import the project.

I get the following message in the SQLModelMigration.log file

"Migration of database: , version: is not supported."

Given other projects which have converted successfully were Oracle 8 projects, what is wrong with the 2 I am having trouble with? Where can I look for information?

Hi,

I'm having some problems migrating my RAD 6.0 workspace (which was running under the WAS 5.1 Test Environment) to a new RAD 7.0 workspace.

I'm using the latest fixpack (7.0.0.3).

Since importing and migrating the old workspace in RAD 7.0 didn't go that successful, I decided to recreate a new workspace in RAD 7.0 from scratch, setup all the Projects and copied over sources from the old workspace to the new workspace.

I setup a new WAS 6.1 Server (Profile AppSrv01) and deployed my application. I'm running the server with resources within the workspace and enabled the Universal Test Client and optimization for testing and developing.

The workspace contains two EAR-applications, one of which uses a Dynamic Web Module. This Iatter EAR-project contains two modules:
1. a web.war module (Web PP-Web.war >> URI = PP-Web.war / Context Root = PP)
2. an EJB module (PP-ServiceEJB.jar >> URI = PP-ServiceEJB.jar)

Furthermore, this EAR-project contains two Project Utility JARs (Java Projects):
1. PP-Service.jar (URI = PP-Service.jar)
2. PP-Common.jar (URI = PP-Common.jar)

The Dynamic PP-Web module was created based on version Web 2.3. It uses Struts 1.1.

The EJB module was created based on the EJB 2.0 specification.

All projects and sources have been recompiled using the 5.0 JDK and RAD 7.0 no longer reports any Errors (only warnings).

The PP-Web project has the following structure:
PP-Web

|-- src (containing some helper classes, Struts Action classes, .....)
|

|-- WebContent
| |

| |-- help (Application manual)
| |

| |-- images (static images)
| |

| |-- js (javascript sources referenced by jsp pages)
| |

| |-- jsp (the jsp pages)
| |

| |-- META-INF
| |

| |-- style (stylesheets referenced by jsp pages)
| |

| |-- WEB-INF
I copied the contents of the old RAD 6.0 struts.xml and web.xml files into the new onces in the RAD 7.0 workspace (see attachment for complete web.xml struts-config.xml).

Deployment to the server seems to go fine and the applications are started.
When accessing the application, first I was getting ClassDefNotFound errors. It took quite some time to figure out what was wrong. It seems that the "struts" library and "common-*" libraries that are placed within the WEB-INF\lib directory by RAD 7.0 when you create a new Dynamic Web Project are not detected. When I move these libraries to a SharedLibrary outside the EAR-file, all seems to work fine.

But now I'm running into another strange problem:
I login to the application via URL: http://localhost:9080/PP/jsp/login.jsp, but the browser just returns a blank page. When I view the source of the page, it just shows the first part of the page <HTML> and <HEAD>. The <BODY> part is not there.

When I remove the compression filter and filter mappings from the web.xml, I can successfully login using the login.jsp page and the page appears correctly in the browser (ie: stylesheets, images, etc. can be found). The login form contains a struts action:
<FORM name="mainForm" method="post" action="/menu.do?action=menu">

But this resolves in the following URL:
http://localhost:9080/menu.do?action=menu
resulting in an HTTP404 Page not found.
The context root seems to be missing, although this has been set to PP in the PP-Web project properties - Web Project settings.

When I login to the application directly (http://localhost:9080/PP), I do get the menu.jsp page, but images, stylesheets, etc. are missing on the page.
The SystemOut.log shows many warnings like:
WebContainer E SRVE0255E: A WebGroup/Virtual Host to handle /images/lg_tnt_main2.gif has not been defined.
the image is referred to in the jsp as "../images/lg_tnt_main2.gif" but changing this to "/images/lg_tnt_main2.gif" doesn't make any difference. The same goes for stylesheets within the WebContent/style directory and javascripts within the "WebContent/js" directory.

Also not all links on the menu page resolve to the right URL (missing context root PP) and some links to pages result in a JSPG0227E error:
JSPG0227E: Exception caught while translating /jsp/flight.search.jsp:
/jsp/flight.search.jsp(451,52) --> JSPG0123E: Unable to locate tag attribute info for tag attribute value_object.

None of the above errors occur when I run the application in the WAS 5.1 Test Environment or when it is deployed on the WAS 5.1 remote server.
Also deploying an older version of the ear-application (build in RAD 6.0) on a WAS 6.1 server doesn't cause any of these issues.

It seems there's some strange thing going on with the context root.
I noticed that when you select the properties of a Web project in RAD 6.0 under J2EE you have the option "Web content folder name". This is no longer available in RAD 7; there's only the "Context Root" option under "Web Project Settings".

Has anybody seen these problems before with applications that have been build in RAD 7.0.0.3 and that have been deployed to a WAS 6.1 server?
Am I missing something in the web.xml or struts-config.xml that is different from RAD 6.0 / WAS 5.1?

Any help would be welcome.

Kind regards,
Manfred Schürhoff

http://localhost:9080/menu.do?action=menu
resulting in an HTTP404 Page not found.

Hello,

I am also facing the same problem on RAD7.0 and WebSphere 6.0.2. I have installed the IBM HTTP server and websphere plugin. My URL is not redirecting to path of staic resources like gifs and pictures. I could see the page witout gifs and style sheet. Where as if I type the url to path gif path it shows. I have put the context paths for gifs like '/staticresource/abc.gif'.

Please let me know if anybody gets the solution.

(sorry for the duplicate - posted in the wrong place originally!)

Thanks,

We are migrating from WSAD 5 to RAD 7, and after importing a project set from CVS when you place your cursor on a class and press F4 to show in Hierarchy view, only the selected class is appearing. The full tree of inheritance is not showing up. Anyone else getting this?

In RAD6, you could use the Component Test Framework by creating a Component Test Project. I can't find this project type in RAD7. Is there some way it has to be enabled, or was it removed from the product?

It's very likely. I haven't seen Linux WAS that didn't run with root rights.
If you don't have root access it's best to have a sudo script for starting and stopping the server. Some admin should be able to do this for you.

> WAS V6.1 at localhost:9060/ibm/console does not display.
> Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?

Is this another problem? Is the server started (dummy question)? What do the logs say?
You should find some line stating that adminconsole could be successfully bound to "admin_host[*:9060,..." - or similar.
Maybe you have different port settings on your server?

What I mean is that my java source-code from another project doesn't pop-up in these jsp scriptlets. I guess it is because the web-project cannot find the source-project on the buildpath.

In my web-project I have a folder called 'Java Resources'. In WSAD I had a jar-file there, called "mySource.jar" referring to the source code project. This jar file is not present in RSA, any idea how I can add it/link to it from the Java Resources/Libraries?

And yes, I've got plenty of space on all the mount points.

No matter where I tell it to install (/opt or /usr/local ...) it says that the partition needs exactly '101.2' MB additional space! (same value for all of them!)
Makes me think that it fails to find the free space, whatever the path is.

I have tried SEVERAL times to install 7.0.0.4 using Install Manager 1.1 on a Windows XP SP2 laptop and it hangs shortly after I select the install packages. I cannot find any logs or messages to help pinpoint the problem. A co-worker has tried it on his machine and also hung. We both had to kill the process using task manager since the cancel key is ineffective
Finally I tried to install 7.0.0.3 and it is installing just fine as I type this note. However other co-workers will be trying to install the latest version and I would like to figure out what is happening.

Can anyone help on this or even tell me how to trace this problem - I could not find any logs file except in the Installation Manager directory and they had nothing pertinent to this problem.

Thanks

I've also experienced serious problems when upgrading to version 7004. My problem was in the code though, it gave me a lot of unexpected compile time errors.

Anyway when I tried to rollback to 7003 it couldn't find the necessary server. I basically had to reinstall RSA 7003, which now runs smoothly again.

If you don't need the updates that follows 7004 (I certainly didn't - check the update page for details) then I suggest you stick with 7003 and rather wait for the next upgrade.

Utility Projects Dropped

‏2007-10-31T16:35:36Z  in response to msiegel
Steps taken for migration:
1. Created new version
2. Because using ClearCase checked out everything that I thought would be affected in CC Explorer
3. Created new RAD 7 workspace
4. Imported project

Fixing some manually but it seems the Utility Projects were dropped from the EAR. They are no longer seen in application xml or the J2EE Module Dependencies in the EAR properties. Using the interface to try to add them does not work. They are not showing up.

How can I add them? Evidently I missed a file that needed to be checked out. Do you know what that might have been? I wanted to keep change management in case but that may be a problem because I am close to just exporting the ear from Rad 6 and picking it up in Rad 7 and then adding it to clearcase.

Thanks...

I have upgraded 2 machines to 7.0.0.4 and, fortunately, I have not encountered the lock up that many have reported. However, I did have to do a complete reinstall on one of these machines 3 stinking times because of problems with my WAS 6.0 runtime.

When I upgraded from 7.0.0.3 to 7.0.0.4, it trashed my WAS V6.0 runtime, so I tried to use the Installation Manager to uninstall and reinstall just the WAS V6.0 runtime. That was a waste of time. It did uninstall the runtime, and even though the reinstall of the runtime said it completed okay, there was no \base_v6 under the \runtimes directory, so of course, RAD didn't see a V6.0 server. I tried this several times and never got it to install the V6 runtime directory, \base_v6. So, I unstinstalled RAD completely and tried again and upgraded it from 7.0.0.0 TO 7.0.0.4.

This time, it installed the runtime, but it was missing core libraries in the WAS v6.0 runtime. It was missing enough that I had no confidence in the integrity of the runtime, so I tried just reinstalling the runtime again like above. Again, it was a waste.

So, after the third complete uninstall, reinstall of 7.0.0.0, and upgrade to 7.0.0.4, it is working. It is shame that operation takes about 4 hours as it cost me 3 days of work. That is the frustrating part.

Thanks,

-Matt

Did you find a solution to issue you have the RAD7 upgrade, as I have a similar issue. After installing RSA, I tried to create a new v6.1 server, specifying C:\Program Files\IBM\SDP70\runtimes\base_v61_stub and C:\Program Files\IBM\SDP70\runtimes\base_v61, as the installation directory but neither directory was valid.

Any ideas on how to re-install the …runtimes\base_v61\bin directory?

Issue with Update Installer

When update.exe is run, the message "A suitable JVM could not be found. Please run the program again using the option -is:javahome <JAVA HOME DIR>. There seems to be no info in readme_updateinstaller.txt on how to instal it.

Reading installation intructions for Update Installer on http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=180&uid=swg27006162
it says that a JAVA_HOME environment variable should be set. On my PC, JAVA_HOME is set to C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_03.

Does anyone know to instal Update Installer?

My question is, is it intentional not to include the securityimpl.jar in 6.1 runtimes. If yes, How we have to use FormLoginServlet and FormLogoutServlet?

I appreciate your help on this?

Hi Shrinu!

I don't know whether you have fixed your problem or not. But when I was also facing a similar problem, what I noticed with trial and error over there was, FormLoginServlet abd FormLogoutServlet are not supported in WAS 6. You rather use "j_security_check".

For example see this link, I have explained it with an example over there.

http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=184456

Again, if you are using any Filters over here and in your Filter if you are using the command "chain.doFilter", you may face some other problems like 404 Not Found error. If any one has this kind of problem, then just reply to this message or send me a private message with the details of your logic, I'll try to solve your issue.

Cheers,

Kartheek.

If not, I will have to keep WSAD around to generate the stubs and copy it manually over to RAD.

Hi,

I am having problems installing Ration Apllication Developer for Websphere Portal. Near to the end of the installation, the manager throws the following error:

Error installing IBM® Rational® Application Developer
Error during "install" phase:
Error executing "D:\dev2008\ibm\sdp70\image\WAS61\WAS\was61install.bat" operation (status=1).
See agent output log for more information: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\IBM\Installation Manager\logs\native\20080417_1954.log

If i look into the logs, i just find:

The system cannot find the path specified.

What is the problem? I have tried it several times and always get the same weird result

This is all the content of was61install.bat

@echo off
set INSTALL=%1

set DisableWASDesktopIntegration=false
..\JDK\jre.pak\repository\package.java.jre\java\jre\bin\java.exe -cp setup.jar -Xms256m -Xmx512m run -options responsefile.rational.txt -OPT installLocation=%INSTALL%\runtimes\base_v61 -silent

I have all the files in my Computer, so maybe it is a problem when setting INSTALL variable.

Thank you for your help

OS : Windows XP SP2
JDK : IBM JDK1.5
RAM : 1GB

I am trying to install RAD7 from past one week. After many failures in installation through IBM Installation Manager finally i was able to install RAD7 but WebSphere AS 6.1 (in RAD7) is failing to start as Initial profile is not created successfully.

This is the error message in the profile log file:

INSTCONFFAILED: The profile could not be created. For more information, consult the /Program Files/IBM/SDP70/runtimes/base_v61/logs/manageprofiles/AppSrv01_create.log file

Message In AppSrv01_create.log
<hr />
Creation of profile AppSrv01 at path /opt/IBM/SDP70/runtimes/base_v61/profiles/AppSrv01 failed.

Is there any solution to get everything run successfully? I uninstalled everything once(Installation Manager & RAD7)cleanly and reinstalled again to try my luck but in vain.

Please respond as i am not able to proceed further with J2EE related stuff.

Hi,

I have a WSAD 5.1 setup.
Now need to migrate to RAD 7.
Process followed by using project Interchange, did not work.
I have projects in RAD 7 and setup my server in rad 7 (WSA 6.1)
The error I keep getting is tld parser failed.
Another issue is my JRE classpath refers to vm.jar while my WAS 5.1 was pointing to rt.jar.
Suggestions or step by step instructions on how to replicate my projects to rad 7 from wsad 5.1 would be a great help.

Hi,

If you have WSAD 5.1.2 then just create project interchange without server and import it into RAD 2.
Once it imported into RAD 7 jsut right click on web projecy dir and select migrate option. for migration. ( do this steps for all projects)

in RAD web.xml init path should start with '/' (leading slash).

<init-param>
<param-name>config</param-name>
<param-value>/WEB-INF/struts-config.xml</param-value>
</init-param>

If you are doing this with project interchange then you need not to set any dependency on the project.

you may get circular path dependency ... which you can resolve setting build path circular path as warning.

follow these steps surely will help.

Thanks,

I did migrate my web project.
I also created my server profile and JDBC with J2C connection factory, tested that, working fine.
My problem is, all the Java build path variables in 5.1 are refering to stuff which is no longer there in rad 7 (was 6.1)
Ex. JRE_LIB refers to rt.jar in 5.1 and in 6.1 its vm.jar
other jars/plugin paths are also not mappable.
How to fix all those mappings in classpath?
Also as of now my build creates these errors in rad 7 saying "Duplicate prefix" and "No start Tag" errors for schemas and jsp tags.

Hi there!

In your Java Build path, change the JRE System library from WAS V 5.1 to WAS V 6.1 or JDK. If you still can't get it right, copy and paste the whole Java Build path information of your project over here..... I'll see if there is anything you are missing there....

Cheers,

Hi,

Is there anywhere a detailed list of bug fixes/ new features for RSA 7.5 relative to previous 7.0 versions. I am looking for a technical document, not marketing...

If there isn't any, how should I know this upgrade is safe for me? Why should I upgrade?

Hi,

At this point of time I have compiled my projects without errors. But when I up my WAS 6.1.0.19, I get

"com.ibm.ws.jsp.taglib.TldParser endElement JSPG0235E: The JSP

error and it fails. I am attaching the console log file for review purposes. I was told fixpack 6.1.0.19 will fix this error "org.apache.struts.taglib.EnumerateTei". I guess it didnt. Any guesses, answers or suggestions are welcome.
Thanks.

One problem we're having with RSA 7.5 on Windows XP: Deleting jar files.

Unfortunately I haven't been able to isolate exactly when this occurs, but under certain circumstances if I right-click on a jar file in the Navigator and select "Delete," the IDE cannot delete them. Something's got hold of them, and even if I quit RSA I have to wait about 30 seconds before I'm permitted to delete them in the file system.

I'm not sure if this has something to do with source control (we're still using CVS) or with the Websphere application server (I believe some of the deletes failed while the app server wasn't running, but can't be sure about that). CVS gets very confused when the jars that are supposed to be deleted aren't deleted.

We didn't have this problem in 7.0.

‏2009-01-22T10:55:28Z  in response to msiegel
I migrated my model from XDE to RSD 7.5 using import wizard.
In this imported model profile XDE Logical Data Model was marked as OUT OF SYNC so I selected "migrate profile" and it got updated from Version 1 Release Label 1.5b to Version 2 ReleaseLabel 7.0.
As a result of migration I can not add "Candidate_Key" stereotype to any of attributes anymore, but all attributes
with "Candidate_Key" stereotype added in XDE have this stereotype present.
I also migrated all other profiles, and tried not migrating them at all - still I can't add new "Candidate_Key" stereotype.
I tried creating test profile with some stereotype and applying it to my project and all test stereotypes I created were available.

Can anyone help me with that ?

why during installation of RSA 7.0.0.x there's an option to "extend a current instance of Eclipse IDE" if it won't ever work with an existing eclipse installation (maybe it used to work in 2007, but hey, that's 3 years ago, isn't it)?

had no success with both ganymede and galileo (i know that RSA is based on obsolete 3.2, but so what?) receiving ridiculous errors about missing certain com.ibm.* and org.eclipse.* features which only come with RSA (and therefore there's no way to have them apriori, see attached screenshot).

did we pay money for a product that provides non-functioning features?

Try Doing
a) Update the installation manager.
b) Delete the SDP and sdpshared folders and retry.
c) Reinstall.

This helped me so you can give a try to solve.

Someone can help me to resolve this problem, Im downloading RAD7.5.5.4 on Win7 OS and got the error "The trial license enrollment operation failed. You need to apply a valid license before running the product." How to run the trial version? Is this version supports on WIn7? If not, which version is good to install?

Hi,

RAD was started to be supported on Windows 7 starting from version 7.5.5 check the following technote.
If you are evaluating RAD than you would better evaluate the latest version RAD 8.0.3.

Hope this will help you.
