Pinned topic logic in RSA sequence diagram

‏2006-11-21T13:58:18Z |
Hi,

We are trying out RSA 7.0 and use the sequence diagram.
I wonder if it is possible to express logic like 'if (x) send()' in these diagrams.

cheers,

Yes, you can create a logical block with a condition as part of the sequence diagram and then send messages within that block.

    Hi
Another important thing to notice is that you have to drag the right side of the condition block over the lifeline you want to send messages to. A window will pop up asking you to select the lifeline(s) you want to include in your condition.
If you do not do so, you can only send messages to yourself.
It would be nicer if RSA included the lifeline after you dropped onto the lifeline. Maybe a nice iprovement for a future version?

    Hi,

Thanks for the responses. Does anyone have/ know where I can find an example so I can see how I add a logical block to my sequence diagram. Or is there a userguide that shows ( with a picture) how I can use it?

    cheers,

    Hi,

Are logic boxes part of uml2 or is it tool specific. If I export the sequence diagram to xmi is the logic information included?

    cheers,

    Hi Mikael,

I do not know of a user guide. However, there is a good developerWorks article about sequence diagrams at http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/rational/library/3101.html.

There may also be some information in the following developerWorks demo: http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/offers/lp/demos/summary/uml2rsa.html, although I will admit not to have seen this demo...

There are also examples in the OMG's UML2 Superstructure document, as well as in many of the new books on UML2.
