Pinned topic CCRC, long path name and Microsoft Excel

‏2006-11-17T16:05:48Z |
In our ClearCase VOB we have some long path numbered path names. At some of the lowest levels we have some Microsoft Excel files. From the normal ClearCase Explorer environment we can open the files without an issue but via CCRC we receive an error telling us the file could not be found, and to check the naming of the file.

I'm assuming this is not a CCRC or ClearCase issue but actually an issue with Microsoft Excel and long path names. Has anyone had a similar issue?

Check this out...long time ago, still no different...

Assuming this is the root cause, you're right, the problem isn't with
CCRC/CC, but rather with...well, the C runtime (which a lot of apps
use). Problem is that CC apps use it too, and they also get hit by it, and
worse, it's really easy to be bitten by it if you wander into version
extended namespace in MVFS (no matter what app you use). Sucks badly.

Only recourse I've come up with is to make the hierarchy shallower...
