I get "unable to initialize plugin" when I attempt to create a DB2 stage.
Any ideas on what this could possibly be?
Thanks in advance.

The DB2 plug-in gets installed during the DataStage server installation itself. It only needs to be configured as follows:
Edit the dsenv file located at /opt/ascential/DataStage/DSEngine to include the following information related to the DB2 Connect:
Add following environment variables:
DB2DIR=/opt/IBMdb2/V7.1; export DB2DIR
DB2INSTANCE=db2admin; export DB2INSTANCE
INSTHOME=/home/apps/db2v71/db2admin; export INSTHOME
DB2PATH=/opt/IBMdb2/V7.1; export DB2PATH
Add the following to the LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable:
Add the following to the PATH variable:
That should resolve the issue.
Re: Problems with DB2 plug-in2004-02-21T00:27:35ZThis is the accepted answer. This is the accepted answer.Well I've made a little progress. ;-)
When I'm in the "Import DSDB2 MetaData" I get "Unable to obtain list of available tables in xyz".
I did call the DB2 person and had him interrogate the access/activity log and he didn't find ANYTHING with my name on it, so I'm guessing it's something between the tool and the DB2 client on our server.
Any tips? My forehead's getting a permanent "qwerty" pattern on it from banging my head on my keyboard!!!

getting this message from plugin metadata import, are you still getting the "unable to initialize plugin" error when trying to use the DSDB2 stage?
I still have the impression that the dsenv entries are not set properly.
Can you connect to DB2 and retrieve data via DB2-connect on the server?
Another issue may be with DB2 v8. You must make sure that all stored procedures on DB2 for accessing systables e.g. are activated properly. We've seen the issue in one installation that retrieving DB2 metadata from an MVS DB2 did not work since this store procedures hadn't been in place.
At least you could simply try to reinstall the plugin.
If nothing helps you should cantact Ascential support as well.

Thank you for your response.
1) Yes, I can access DB2-connect from the command line. And I am using the same userid there as I am in DataStage.
2)DSENV looks just the way it was defined above. I've even gone so far as to put set -x in the script just to see what's happening as I start DS!
3)I pulled down the latest plugins from the Ascential website Friday night and reinstalled them.
4)I'll look into the stored procedures for DB2.
Is there a way to debug the Plug-in action? I set trace on in administrator and there appeared to be nothing that would give me a clear answer as to whether I was making it out to DB2 or not.

We had differing versions of the UDB client on our server.
Our DB2 guru corrected the problem and now it works!
Thanks much to all for your help. I learned a lot along the way.
