Pinned topic DAS & db2admin command missing after install of 8.1 PE on Linux

‏2006-01-22T10:39:43Z |
Sorry about cross-posting this, but I posted it to the beta forum by mistake :-(

Hi, I'm new to db2 and have a question about installion. I've installed 8.1 PE on Ubuntu Linux. I downloaded LNX26_V822_PE_x86.tar (this claims to be v 8.2.2 but all version numbers are 8.1 after installation...?) and from db2_install I installed

DB2.ADMCL DB2 Administration Client for LINUX26
DB2.PE DB2 Personal Edition for LINUX26
DB2.ADCL DB2 Application Development Client for LINUX26

This is great and I can start using db2 but I need the DAS - the db2admin command is missing from /opt/IBM/db2/V8.1/bin - is there a separate install file for DAS and where can I find it?

Many thanks,

Type in db2level to determine what versions and fixpack level you have
installed. I would strongly suggest that you upgrade to FP10 (FP11 will be
    available in a few days).

Login as the DB2 admin server user id (the default is dasusr1 unless you
changed it) and issue the db2admin command.

    Hi, thanks for that.

    db2level gives:

    DB21085I Instance "db2inst1" uses "32" bits and DB2 code release "SQL08023"
    with level identifier "03040106".
    Informational tokens are "DB2 v8.1.2.96", "s050811", "MI00142", and FixPak
    "10".
    Product is installed at "/opt/IBM/db2/V8.1".

and I found the das commands in /opt/IBM/db2/V8.1/das/bin/ (I can't explain why I didn't use locate before posting!) I created the users manually, as I'm not on a rpm-based distro, so maybe if I hadn't done that the install would have set up the path of dasusr1...?

I still have an issue with DAS it seems - switching to dasusr1 and issuing db2admin start gives

    DB2ADMIN processing complete, SQLCODE = 4404

but then when I switch back to db2inst1 user, run db2fs and select 'Create Your Own Database' I get the error:
The Administration Server is not started. Start the Administration Server and try the action again.

Any help much appreciated, including links to walkthrough docs for novices!

4404 indicates that the DAS does not exist. Use the dascrt command to
    create one.

SQL errors are in Message Reference Vol 2.

    thanks Larry, that works.
