    Set DB2COMM=TCPIP only.

To expand somewhat, db2set is for DB2 registry variables in which changes
only take effect an instance start time. So if you change your registry
settings using db2set, you will need to restart your instance by doing a
          db2stop followed by a db2start.

          >>db2set xxxxxxx=yyyyy
          >>db2stop
          >>db2start

          should do the trick

Just to add -- if you use the online Information Center at:
            http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/db2luw/v8//index.jsp and search on
db2set, you should be able to find some useful hits at the top of the result
            page of the search.

Perhaps if you check you Windows Event Viewer to see if any Windows
                services are failing to start.

So your Windows Event Monitor shows that this service fails to start at
the exact time that you are trying to start DB2? Hmmm. I have nothing
called Netbios Interface in my windows services and my DB2 works fine.
Not sure what is happening. You may need to open up a PMR with IBM support.

My interpretation is that the service does not exist (same as you). As a
result of that, DB2 is not starting.

Before starting DB2, should I start the service of DB2-DB2 in the Windows Event Monitor. I try to start it. It display an error saying :
Could not start the DB2-DB2 service on Local Computer.
Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start.

And I check the services needed in the Dependencies tab. There is a NetBIOSGroup, NetBIOS Interface. So I suppose that it need to start NetBIOS Interface service first. But I don't find this entry in the Windows Event Monitor.

NetBIOS is not a 'Service' in the Windows sense. It's a network
protocol, usually used under the covers wrapped inside a TCP/IP wrapper.

Go into your Network Connection properties (Control Panel, Network
Connections, right-click on your active connection and select Properties).
Edit the properties of "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)", and click on
"Advanced", then go to the "WINS" tab of that notebook. On my system,
                        NetBIOS is enabled ("Default" selected).

If that doesn't fix it, I'm out of guesses.

                            One more guess...

Do a "db2 get dbm cfg" and look for the line:

                            NetBIOS Workstation name (NNAME) =

If there is any value beside "(NNAME) = ", remove it by issuing the
                            following command:

db2 update dbm cfg using nname ''

                              Is it a db2 command?
I type it in the command window.
                              It displays an error:
                              DB21061E uninitialize command line environment

By the way, it gives an error message saying can't add contact information when installing the DB2.

On Windows, DB2 commands cannot be entered from a normal command window.
You need to open a DB2 CLP Window and run DB2 commands in there.

I ignore the warnings about adding contact information, it is important
only if you use the notification capability of DB2.

                                  I solved the problem.
I found a service named server disabled at last.
It works after starting this service.
Thank you very much, all guys helping me.

What Windows platform are you running on (XP Home/Professional, NT, Windows 98, Server 2003, MS Cluster)?

                        nntp://news.software.ibm.com/ibm.software.db2.udb/<359910569.1136130850312.JavaMail.wassrvr@ltsgwas007.sby.ibm.com>

This may not be a UDB problem.

Yes there is a dependency of NetBios for the UDB Instance to start. Please check that NetBIOS over TCP/IP (NetBT) is enabled within XP - google "netbios interface windows xp" will give you a good start, including enabling via network - tcpip - advanced - wins - Enable netbios, and TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper service….

                          Regards,

                          Neil.

Let's see what your registry has... could you please post the output from
                    "db2set -all"?

Also, do you have any NetBIOS remote nodes defined? "db2 list node
                    directory"

                    --
